Father indicted for murder in death of Falls baby

By Ed Meyer
Beacon Journal staff writer

The father of 2 1/2-month-old Camryn Jakeb Wilson, the first area baby born in the new year, was indicted today by a Summit County grand jury for murder and other charges in connection with the child's death, authorities said.

Craig R. Wilson, 28, is being held at the county jail in lieu of $250,000 cash bond. He is scheduled to be arraigned Friday before a Common Pleas Court magistrate.

In addition to the murder charge, Wilson was indicted for one count of felonious assault and two counts of endangering children.

Camryn was pronounced dead March 25 at Akron Children's Hospital after his mother, Crystal Wilson, 26, authorized the end of life support.

According to a Cuyahoga Falls police report, hospital personnel notified police on March 12 that a 2-month-old boy was being treated for ''severe head and bodily injuries.''

Police said a subsequent investigation found that Camryn had been in the care of his father at the family's Wilson Street home in Cuyahoga Falls.

Craig Wilson initially was charged in Falls Municipal Court with assault and child endangering and entered a not guilty plea.

Defense lawyer Jonathan T. Sinn said Wilson is devastated by the child's death and is cooperating with authorities to bring a quick resolution to the criminal case.

The Summit County Medical Examiner's Office performed an autopsy, but a spokesman said today that the cause and manner of the child's death are pending additional laboratory test results.

Camryn was featured in a Beacon Journal story on Jan. 2 as the first area baby born this year.
