Pat McManamon: 3 quick thoughts on Browns schedule

By Pat McManamon

Three quick thoughts on the Browns schedule:

• 1) Grand opening — The first two games are doozies (that's a technical football term there ... doozy). At home against Dallas and at home against Pittsburgh. Two exciting games, one on prime time on Sunday afternoon (vs. the Cowboys) and one on Sunday night (against the Steelers). There will be no stumbling into this season. The Browns have to be ready from the get-go.

• 2) Someone likes the Browns — The Browns will play five prime-time games at a minimum. They already are scheduled to play Pittsburgh on Sunday night, the Giants on Monday night, the Broncos on a Thursday night and at Buffalo and at Philadelphia on Mondays. Five other 1 p.m. games in the last six weeks could be moved. The NFL does not give that many night games to teams that are supposed to struggle. Welcome to the world of expectations, Cleveland Browns.

• 3) Road warriors — Three of the last four games are on the road, which is not easy. Too, no coach likes a road Monday night game, and the Browns have two. The team that travels well usually succeeds, and the Browns did not travel well last season (3-5). If the high hopes that will greet this season are to be realized, the Browns will have to do better in those final road games.
