Here is a list of road and lane closings in the Akron area.
Major highways abruptly closed: None.
Other road construction:
Akron:
• West Market Street from Pershing Avenue east to the railroad crossing: Major construction has resumed. Weather permitting, one lane of traffic will remain open in each direction during the day as work begins to reconstruct the south side of West Market. All traffic has been shifted to the north side of the street and barricades will extend from Bryden Drive to White Pond Drive. Temporary turn lanes will be provided at Frank Boulevard and Pershing Avenue, with police assisting motorists making left turns. These conditions will remain through June. Access to all businesses in the area will be maintained.
• North Hawkins Avenue, from Garman Road to Wiltshire/Fairfax roads: Closed for restoration of an underground sewer line until the end of April. A detour is posted.
• White Pond Drive, from Mull Avenue to the railroad tracks: Closed to all but local and emergency traffic until September for reconstruction of the roadbed and installation of a new signalized intersection south of the tracks. A detour is posted.
• East Market Street, from Martha Avenue east to I-76: Reduced to one lane in each direction through mid-summer for widening and reconstruction. The project is scheduled to be completed in late October.
• Exchange Street, at South Main Street: Lane reduction in the intersection to accommodate underground steam-line reconstruction until the end of April.
• Cedar Street, from South Main Street to South High Street: Lane reduction for entire block to allow for construction activities.
• Manchester Road, from Waterloo Road to Carnegie Avenue: Full-depth reconstruction of Manchester Road in this area with various lane restrictions through April.
• North Howard Street, from Cuyahoga Falls Avenue to Cuyahoga Street: Closed for construction of new curbs, gutters and road surface. Through traffic will be eliminated but North Howard will be open for local access. Detour signs will direct motorists to businesses and St. Thomas Hospital. The road will remain closed for several months.
• Dart Avenue, from Mill Street to West Market Street: Closed until fall for construction of an addition to the Superblock Parking Deck (at First Energy Building). A short portion of Dart Avenue will remain open for deliveries. Access to the parking deck from Mill Street will continue.
Elsewhere in Summit County:
• Interstate 77 widening and repaving: I-77 will be reduced to one lane in either or both directions near the Ridgewood and Miller roads interchange from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. nightly throughout this week.
• State Route 21 northbound exit ramp to I-77 southbound in Fairlawn: The ramp will remain closed until mid-June. A detour is posted.
• I-271 in Boston Township: There are two lanes open on the newly constructed northbound bridge over the Cuyahoga River valley and two lanes southbound on the new half of the existing southbound structure. The final half of the southbound structure will be built during this year's construction season. The entire project will be completed by late fall 2009.
• I-271 and state Route 8 in Boston Heights, Hudson, Macedonia and Northfield Center Township: The right lanes of I-271 are exits only to Route 8 until September 2009 for ramp and bridge construction. I-271 will consist of a single lane in each direction. There will be retaining wall construction, along with foundation and substructure work for new bridges.
• Twinsburg Road at state Route 8 in Northfield Center Township: Closed until late fall 2009. This work is part of the $91 million project to reconstruct Route 8 from just south of Twinsburg Road to just north of the I-271 interchange. Five bridges will be constructed. The ramps will be improved. New two-lane ramps will be built to get onto I-271 from Route 8 northbound and to Route 8 southbound from I-271 southbound. Included is a new service road from Hines Hill Road. The project is to be completed by late summer 2010.
Medina County:

Included are major modifications to the I-71/I-76 interchange. Two lanes of traffic will be maintained in each direction but there may be single-lane closings during non-peak hours. The project is scheduled to be completed in the summer of 2010.
From 7 a.m. through 3 p.m. today, I-76 will be restricted to one lane of traffic in each direction.

The project also includes the redecking and painting of the twin bridges on Route 21 over the Tuscarawas River.
Wayne County:
• State Route 21 in Chippewa Township: At its intersection with Eastern Road, there will be intermittent single-lane closings of short duration in both directions for traffic signal upgrades.
