OXFORD: Video of a police officer using a stun gun on a man outside a bar near Miami University shows the man getting shocked for about 10 seconds as he rolls around on a sidewalk.
Oxford officer Geoff Robinson used the device on 24-year-old Kevin Piskura early Saturday morning as the officer tried to break up a fight, police said. Piskura, a Miami graduate who lives in Chicago, remained in critical condition at a Cincinnati hospital on Tuesday.
''We are imploring everyone to wait with us for the results of that investigation and not rush to judgment regarding the facts surrounding Kevin's injuries,'' Piskura's family said in a release issued through University Hospital on Tuesday.
Also Tuesday, authorities released video shot by a camera on the stun gun. Because it was dark, it is difficult to see details.
Police said Piskura argued with police after a friend was escorted from a bar. An officer drew his Taser stun gun and told Piskura to stop, authorities said, and when he did not, the officer used the device.
Piskura became unresponsive and was taken to Oxford's McCullough-Hyde Hospital and was later transferred to University Hospital.
The Butler County Sheriff's Office is investigating the officer's actions.
Robinson has been an officer for two years. He had taken a refresher course on using a stun gun a week before the incident, police said.
