A man and a young child were killed early this morning and firefighters were injured in an accident in Massillon early this morning, according to broadcast and Web news reports.
The Stark County coroner and the Ohio State Highway Patrol are investigating the crash of a Massillon Fire truck and a vehicle at Walnut Road and 13th St. Southeast, according to Greg Browning, director of Massillon's Regional Emergency Dispatch Center.
Browning said the accident was reported at about 8:38 a.m. today.
At 8:46 a.m., he said, the dispatcher received word that the coroner had been notified.
The Canton Repository's Web site said the man and baby were in a Dodge Caravan that was struck in the side, and that onlookers identified the man as the grandfather of the baby.
More details on the crash will be posted as they become available.
