An Akron man died Sunday afternoon at Mercy Medical Center in Canton from injuries sustained in a bicycle crash Saturday night in Lawrence Township.
The Stark County Coroner's Office reported that James Johnson, who lived in the 900 block of Georgia Avenue and turned 53 on Sunday, reportedly was doing jumps off a ramp with his grandchildren at the home of one his children on Sherri Avenue in Lawrence Township. Johnson, who worked at the Giant Eagle store in North Canton, fell three feet head first on a jump.
The Lawrence Township Fire Department received the call at 7:53 p.m. Saturday and reached Johnson, who was not breathing, four minutes later. Paramedics transported him to the hospital, where he died at 2:50 p.m. Sunday.
The coroner's office said Johnson sustained multiple neck and rib fractures and had internal bleeding.
