COLUMBUS: A Columbus bar accused of ignoring the statewide smoking ban will face off against city health officials at a first-of-its-kind hearing.
Zeno's Victorian Village bar will become the first establishment to challenge the city's enforcement of Ohio's law against smoking at indoor public places. Wednesday's proceeding will take place before a hearing officer, an independent lawyer hired by the city.
Columbus city officials say Zeno's still welcomes cigarette smoking and even provides patrons with plastic cups to use for ashtrays.
Initially, Zeno's was given a warning and paid a $100 fine. Subsequent $1,000 and $2,000 fines have not been paid.
There was no answer Tuesday morning at the business number for Zeno's owner, Dick Allen.
