UPDATE: Bentley, Browns part ways

Center LeCharles Bentley left the Browns facility in Berea with a suitcase at lunchtime Wednesday, and a report on Cleveland.com said he had asked for and received his release.

General Manager Phil Savage said he would address the situation this afternoon.

''But LeCharles doesn't want to be an insurance policy,'' Feinsod said in the Cleveland.com report. ''He's going to play somewhere in 2008.''Bentley spoke to reporters outside before being picked up by his mother.

Asked if he'd asked for his release, the former Ohio State star and St. Ignatius product smiled and said, ''Would I do that?'' Asked about supposed bad blood between him in the Browns, he said, ''Not any more.''

Bentley suffered a torn patellar tendon on the first play of training camp in 2006 and contracted a staph infection that he said was life-and-limb threatening and required three more surgeries.

The 28-year-old Pro Bowler passed the Browns' physical Monday night, along with a running test that consisted of a series of 40-yard dashes.
