A steam locomotive will again rumble through the Cuyahoga Valley.
This year, the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad is offering more excursions and activities when the 1948-built engine, OC 1293, comes to the Valley, Sept. 24-28.
The OC 1293 — on loan from the Ohio Central Railroad System — made a visit to the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad track last year, marking the return of a steam locomotive after 17 years.
SteamFestival! will run from 3 to 8 p.m. Sept. 24 and 25 at the Howe Meadow, off Riverview Road in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park.
The event will feature the locomotive, a model railroad display, photos with the engineer, costumed characters, games and a gift shop.
Parking and admission to the festival is $10 for adults and $8 for children ages 3 to 12. A ride aboard the train is an additional $15 for adults and $12 for children.
An excursion through the Cuyahoga Valley National Park will be at 9:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. Sept. 27 and 9:30 a.m. Sept. 28. The trips will depart from the Rockside Station in Independence. Tickets are $25 to $85.
At 2 p.m. Sept. 28, an Anniversary Run — celebrating the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad's 25th anniversary — will be offered. It also will leave from the Rockside Station. A boxed lunch will be provided. Tickets are $35 to $120.
For tickets, call the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad at 1-800-468-4070.
