Employees at the Petland store in Chapel Hill Mall in Akron reported to police that a man and two children stole a Yorkshire Terrier valued at $2,000 on Wednesday. But by 3 p.m. Thursday police had recovered the dog and returned it to the mall.
The 50-year-old Stow man and children left the store with the dog about 1 p.m. Wednesday as an employee was doing a credit check on the man, who had asked about buying the dog, according to a police report. Police determined the man gave the employee his correct information.
Lt. Rick Edwards said police spent most of Thursday trying to find the dog.
``They've moved from location to location to location, from Stow to Portage Lakes and back to Stow,'' he said. They found the dog on Orchard Drive in Stow, which is not where the man lives. Police have identified everyone involved, he said.
He said it was unclear whether any charges would be filed, as the store was ``reluctant to press charges, now that they've got the dog back.''
