Canal Fulton man sent to prison

A Canal Fulton man was sentenced to five years in prison on Thursday after failing to make restitution to his victims, a requirement of his probation, said Summit County Prosecutor Sherri Bevan Walsh.

James Calabrais, 52, of Packets Street, owed $57,000 in restitution to automobile wholesalers and car buyers he cheated from Oct. 4, 2005 to April 13, 2006, when he was part owner of Jim's Jalopy's in Munroe Falls, according to police records.

His five-year sentence was reduced by Judge Cosgrove providing his payments were timely.

Calabris, who has charges pending in two different jurisdictions, made his last payment in December of 2007, according to the prosecutor.

He allegedly sold the same Honda to several people and never delivered the car to any of them. He also sold cars to people but never gave them titles.
