Two teenagers were injured early this morning when the pickup truck they were in was hit by a train in Rootstown, the Ohio State Highway Patrol said.
Matthew T. Marsh, 17, of Atwater, driver of the vehicle, and Hayden D. Welch, 17, of Rootstown, were both taken to Akron City Hospital following the accident that occurred at 12:25 a.m.
Marsh is currently listed in satisfactory condition. Welch is listed in serious condition in the intensive care unit of the hospital.
Marsh, who was traveling northbound on Industry Road south of Tallmadge Road, attempted to go around the crossing gates and was struck by the train, authorities said.
Both teens were wearing seat belts.
Alcohol is not suspected as a factor in the incident.
The crash is being investigated by the Ravenna post of the Ohio State Patrol.
