By Beacon Journal staff report

Professionals in science fields who are interested in becoming high school teachers can learn about the University of Akron's 12-month accelerated teaching program at an informational meeting from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.

The meeting will be in Room 328 of Zook Hall.

Participants, who must have bachelor's degrees, will receive a full tuition waiver, thanks to a $430,000 Ohio Department of Education grant.

Applications for the program, which begins this fall and ends in summer 2009, will be available at the meeting. Deadline for completed applications is Friday. An undergraduate transcript, with a minimum 2.5 science grade point average, is required.

Courses will be offered evenings, weekends and online.

Participants can receive a two-year teaching license in earth science, life science, chemistry or physics. Participants may come from a variety of science backgrounds.
