Two Stow residents wanted by police on drug charges turned themselves in to authorities today after returning from a trip to the Bahamas, Stow Police Lt. Rick Myers said.
Stow police issued arrests for John F. Constantine, 33, and Christine M. Constantine, 30, after a search of their Elizabeth Drive residence uncovered a marijuana-growing operation.
Myers said a bicycle patrol observed an overpowering odor of marijuana coming from a dryer vent at the home on July 29. The two officers also noted that surveillance cameras were mounted on the roof at the front and rear entrances of the house.
After unsuccessfully attempting to contact the residents, the officers, with help from the detective bureau, obtained a search warrant for the property.
Police said they discovered a hidden room in the basement of the house that contained more than 100 marijuana plants in various stages of growth. The room had special lighting, fans, fertilizers and other equipment for the cultivation and sale of the drug.
Police said they also found 11 vials of steroids and syringes, a .40 caliber semiautomatic handgun and ammunition.
The total estimated street value of the drugs exceeds $75,000.
Each of the Constantines is charged with one count of cultivation and one count of trafficking in marijuana.
They appeared in front of Judge Lisa Coates in Cuyahoga Falls Municipal Court today.
