New Britain may have been a doormat to a majority of Eastern League teams this season, but to the Aeros, the Rock Cats might as well have been kryptonite.
For the second time in a week in two three-game series home and away the Aeros (75-60) were swept by the Rock Cats (58-74), concluding with Sunday's loss.
The Aeros are second in the Southern Division, four games behind the division-leading Bowie Baysox; the Rock Cats are in fifth place in the Northern Division, 231/2 games behind the division-leading Trenton Thunder.
The Aeros got behind early and did not score until the sixth inning, when third baseman Wes Hodges hit his team-leading 16th home run of the season off Rock Cats starter Jay Rainville. Hodges struck again in the eighth with a two-out double but was stranded.
The Aeros didn't go quietly, rallying for a run in the the ninth inning, but came up short for the third consecutive game.
Rainville (9-9, 5.98 ERA) limited the Aeros to a one run on six hits and struck out a season-high 11 batters for the win.
The Aeros' Kevin Dixon dropped to 8-11 with a 4.56 ERA, taking the loss despite allowing just three runs on three hits in seven innings.
The Aeros, still trying to secure the division wild card, won just twice on the six-game road trip. They have today off before hosting the Altoona Curve for the final three games of the regular season at Canal Park.
