Here is a list of road and lane closings in the Akron area.
Major highways abruptly closed: None.
Other road construction:
Akron:
• Summit Street railroad crossing closing: Just north of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard today from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. to replace a broken rail. A detour will be posted.
• State Route 8 lane restrictions: At the bridge over North Street and the Little Cuyahoga River (just north of Perkins Street), there will be single-lane restrictions in both directions throughout the week from 7 p.m. until 6 a.m. nightly for lighting work. This is part of the project to overlay the bridge deck and is expected to be completed by late October.
• State Route 8 in Akron and Cuyahoga Falls: From Perkins Street to Graham Road, there will be single-lane restrictions all week from 9 a.m. to noon daily for replacement of overhead signs. The project should be completed in late August.
• South Main Street, from Waterloo Road to Swartz Road: Road reconstruction and replacement of the bridge over Brewster Creek. The project includes widening for an exclusive left turn lane at Waterloo Road for northbound traffic, upgrading traffic signals, relocating utilities underground and upgrading street lighting and storm sewers. It will continue for about one year.
• Akron Innerbelt lane restrictions: The entrance ramp from West Exchange Street/Dart Avenue to state Route 59 northbound (Akron Innerbelt) is closed until mid-September for bridge painting. Also, the innerbelt from West Market Street to Interstate 76/Interstate 77 will have various lane restrictions in both directions. The entire project is scheduled to be completed by late October.
• Abington Road closing to traffic: Between Triplett Boulevard and Wedgewood Avenue to replace the deck on the bridge over Springfield Lake Outlet. Local traffic will be maintained north and south of the bridge. Access for local traffic over the bridge will not be permitted. A detour will be posted. The road will reopen by the end of August.
• North Portage Path, from Barcelona Drive to Treaty Line Road: Closed for road reconstruction until mid-September. Traffic is detoured via Merriman Road and Memorial Parkway.
• East Market Street, from Massillon Road to Elm Drive: Reduced to one lane in each direction. The widening and reconstruction project is to be completed in late October.
• East Market Street, from Canton Road to I-76: Grinding and paving with various lane closings until Friday.
• Cedar Street, from South Main Street to South High Street: Lane reduction for entire block to allow for construction activities until spring of 2009.
• Dart Avenue, from Mill Street to West Market Street: Closed until fall for construction of an addition to the Superblock Parking Deck (at FirstEnergy Corp. building). A short portion of Dart Avenue will remain open for deliveries. Access to the parking deck from Mill Street will continue.
Elsewhere in Summit County:
• Robinson Avenue closing in Barberton: Between Third Street Southeast and Second Street Southeast for an indefinite period for sanitary sewer work. Local access will be maintained. All westbound truck traffic will be diverted south on Fifth Street Southeast to Snyder Avenue. Eastbound truck traffic is diverted south on Van Buren Avenue to Snyder Avenue.
• I-76 in eastern Summit County: I-76 from Gilchrist Road to the Portage County line will have lane restrictions from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. this week for bridge work. The lane restrictions will be short and might change nightly.
• South Main Street, from Swartz Road to Althea Avenue in Coventry Township: Road widening and bridge replacement over the Tuscarawas River. Includes an exclusive right turn lane for southbound traffic turning onto North Turkeyfoot Road from South Main Street. The road will be widened to provide two through lanes for southbound traffic on South Main, and one through lane and a combined through/turn lane for northbound traffic. There will also be improvements to Swartz and North Turkeyfoot roads for added turn lanes. The project will continue for about one year.
• I-77 in Akron and Coventry Township: There will be various lane restrictions in both directions throughout the week from 7 p.m. until 5 a.m. nightly for pavement repairs.
• Interstate 77 widening and repaving: The project to add a third lane between Copley Road and state Route 18 continues, including construction of noise walls and improvements to bridges and ramps. I-77 from the state Route 21/I-77 split to Frank Boulevard will have lane restrictions in both directions from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. nightly. Route 21 northbound, just south of the I-77 split, will have daily lane restrictions from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. Cleveland-Massillon Road under I-77 will be reduced to one lane in each direction. The project is to be completed by late October.
• I-77 rest area closing in Bath Township: The rest areas on I-77 northbound and southbound between the I-271 and Ghent Road interchanges are closed until Sept. 1 for waterline installation.
• Boston Mills Road closing in Boston and Richfield townships: Closed to all through traffic between Black and Riverview roads until Sept. 19 for road improvements. All local traffic will be maintained. Detours will be posted.
• State Route 21 lane restrictions in Norton and Copley Township: Paving work has started on the Route 21 ramps at the I-76/U.S. 224 and state Route 585 interchanges. From 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. nightly, one or two ramps will be closed at a time. Detours will be posted. Resurfacing and minor bridge work on Route 21 will continue until July 2009.
• State Route 303 resurfacing in Peninsula, Boston Heights and Boston Township: Route 303 from the western Peninsula corporation limit to Chittenden Road has daily lane restrictions, with traffic maintained by flaggers. The project is scheduled to be completed by mid-September.
• Interstate 271 in Boston Township: I-271 over the Cuyahoga River is reduced to one lane in each direction during off-peak hours. The entire project to replace the twin bridges will be completed by late fall 2009.
• I-271 and state Route 8 in Boston Heights, Hudson, Macedonia and Northfield Center Township: Route 8 traffic is using the new northbound section. The speed limit for Route 8 from Hines Hill Road to I-271 is now posted at 40 mph in both directions. Route 8 under I-271 will have various lane restrictions from 9 p.m. to 3 p.m. daily.
• State Route 8 and Steels Corners Road in Stow: Route 8 currently is reduced to two lanes in each direction at Steels Corners Road. This is part of a project to widen and reconstruct Steels Corners Road from the Route 8 interchange to the intersection with Allen Road and Hudson Drive. It is to be completed by late September 2009.
• State Route 8 in Stow, Hudson and Boston Heights: Route 8 from Steels Corners Road to Hines Hill Road will be reduced to one lane in either or both directions Monday through Friday nights from 7 p.m. until 6 a.m. nightly for pavement repair and resurfacing. At all other times, two lanes of traffic will be maintained in each direction on Route 8 from Steels Corners Road to Hines Hill Road. This is part of a pavement grinding project from Graham Road to state Route 303, as well as partial resurfacing from Route 303 to Hines Hill Road scheduled to be completed in late May.
• Twinsburg Road at state Route 8 in Northfield Center Township: Closed until late fall 2009. This work is part of the $91 million project to reconstruct Route 8 from just south of Twinsburg Road to just north of the I-271 interchange. Five bridges will be constructed. The ramps will be improved. New two-lane ramps will be built to get onto I-271 from Route 8 northbound and to Route 8 southbound from I-271 southbound. Included is a new service road from Hines Hill Road. The project is to be completed by late summer 2010.
• I-480 in Twinsburg and Macedonia: I-480 from the Cuyahoga County line to west of state Route 82 will have nightly lane restrictions in both directions throughout the week from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. nightly. Chamberlin Road and Bedford Road under I-480 have daily lane restrictions, as does Shepard Road over I-480. Traffic will be maintained with flaggers.
• State Route 82 road work in Macedonia: North Bedford Road/East Valley View Road at Route 82 will be closed until early October for reconstruction and widening. A detour is posted.
Medina County:
• I-71 and I-76 in Medina County: Major reconstruction and widening of I-71, including addition of a third lane in each direction from one-half mile north of Leroy Road to one mile north of the I-76 interchange. Included are major modifications to the I-71/I-76 interchange. Two lanes of traffic will be maintained in each direction but there may be single-lane closings during non-peak hours. The project is scheduled to be completed in the summer of 2010.
I-76 will be restricted to one lane of traffic in each direction from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. nightly through Friday.
• U.S. 224 lane restrictions: Between state Route 301 and U.S. 42, there will be one lane of two-way traffic as part of a resurfacing project until Sept. 5.
• State Route 18 widening and reconstruction: Route 18, between Windfall Road and the Summit County line, has intermittent single-lane closings as part of finalization work for the project. One lane of traffic will be maintained in each direction with a center turn lane until Friday.
• State Route 3 lane restrictions in Guilford Township: Between Greenwich Road and U.S. 42, Route 3 will be restricted to one lane of two-way traffic with flaggers as part of a resurfacing project. The work is to be completed by mid-September.
• Medina Line Road closing in Wadsworth Township: Between Greenwich and Akron roads until approximately the end of August for bridge repair.
• Westfield Road closing in Westfield Township: Between Buffham and Kennard roads today for ditching and berm work.
Portage County:
• I-76 in Portage County: I-76 from the Summit County line to the Mahoning County line will have lane restrictions this week from 7 p.m. until 6 a.m. each night in both directions for bridge work. The restrictions will be short and might change nightly.
• State Route 59 in Franklin Township: Reduced to one lane in each direction from Powder Mill Road to Menough Road while widening work occurs on the south side of Route 59 until further notice.
• State Route 59 in Ravenna: Lane restrictions in both directions between the western Ravenna city limits and state Route 88 (Freedom Street) as part of a resurfacing project. These will occur from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. daily. It is scheduled to be completed by late September.
• State Route 14 lane restrictions: From state Route 88 to the Streetsboro eastern city limits there will be various nighttime lane restrictions for resurfacing. Traffic will be maintained with flaggers. The entire project is scheduled to be complete by September.
• State Routes 14 and 225 in Palmyra and Deerfield Townships: Route 14 between state Route 183 and Giddings Road is closed until late August for a culvert replacement. A detour is posted.
• U.S. 224 resurfacing in Atwater and Deerfield Townships: From Deerfield Circle to state Route 183, there are daily lane restrictions with traffic being maintained by flaggers from 7 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. daily until late September.
• State Route 303 resurfacing in Windham Township: From state Route 88 to the eastern Windham corporation limit, there are daily lane restrictions with traffic being maintained by flaggers until mid-September.
Stark County:
• U.S. 62 and Cleveland Avenue in Canton and Plain Township: This week, U.S. 62 from I-77 to Columbus Avenue will have various lane restrictions in both directions nightly through today from 7 p.m. until 6 a.m. westbound and from 7 p.m. until 11 a.m. eastbound. Cleveland Avenue from 30th Street to U.S. 62 will have lane restrictions in both directions through Friday from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. daily. This is part of a project to resurface U.S. 62 from I-77 to Columbus Avenue as well as make minor bridge repairs. It is to be completed by late September.
• State Route 21 in Massillon and Perry Township: Route 21 from just south of the U.S. 30 interchange to Walnut Street is reduced to one lane in each direction for resurfacing work. In addition, Route 21 over the Tuscarawas River is reduced to one lane in each direction. The project also includes the redecking and painting of the twin bridges over the river. It is scheduled to be completed by June.
• State Routes 43 and 619 in Lake Township: Route 43 from the Portage County line to Route 619 will have lane restrictions for resurfacing and bridge work until late summer.
• U.S. Route 30 and Deerfield Avenue in Tuscarawas Township: U.S. 30 from Alabama Avenue to the Wayne County line has various lane restrictions for bridge work. This work is part of a project to resurface U.S. 30 from the Wayne County line to the western Massillon city limits as well as the reconstruction of the Deerfield Avenue bridge until late October.
• State Routes 153 and 173 in Nimishillen, Marlboro, Washington and Lexington Townships: Routes 73 and 44 to just west of U.S. 62, and Route 153 from the eastern Louisville corporation limit to Parks Avenue have lane restrictions for resurfacing with traffic being maintained by flaggers. The work is expected to be completed by late October.
• Fulton Drive and Wales Avenue lane restrictions in Jackson Township: The intersection of Fulton Drive and Wales Avenue has various lane restrictions for intersection reconstruction and widening. The entire project is scheduled to be completed by October 2009.
• State Route 212 closed in Bethlehem Township: The bridge over the Tuscarawas River is closed through late September for bridge re-decking.
• State Routes 93 and 212 in Brewster and Beach City: Route 93 from the Tuscarawas County line to U.S. 62 and Route 212 from the Tuscarawas County line to U.S. 250 will have various lane restrictions for resurfacing. Traffic will be maintained with flaggers. The project is to be completed by late September.
Wayne County:
• State Route 302, between the Ashland County line and County Road 30A: Restricted to one lane of two-way traffic as part of a chip seal project. It will be completed by Friday.
• State Route 94 lane restrictions: Between state Route 241 and U.S. 30, Route 94 will be restricted to one lane of two-way traffic for a resurfacing project. The work will be completed by Sept. 6.
• State Route 604 lane restrictions: Between state routes 83 and 585, one lane of two-way traffic will be maintained at all times with flaggers during a resurfacing project. The project will be completed by mid-October.
• State Route 226 lane restrictions: Between state Route 3 and the village of Shreve, Route 226 is restricted to one lane of two-way traffic as part of a spot patching project until Friday.
Elsewhere in Northeast Ohio:
• I-77, additional lane in Brecksville, Broadview Heights and Independence: Weekday lane closings are expected both daily and nightly. The Rockside Road eastbound ramp to I-77 northbound and I-77 southbound ramp to Pleasant Valley are both restricted to one narrow lane, as is the I-77 southbound ramp to Wallings Road.
• State Route 82 lane restrictions in Broadview Heights: The left lanes of state Route 82 (Royalton Road) will be closed in both directions beneath I-77 for 30 days. This is because of work taking place on the I-77 bridge and the Route 82 median.
• I-480 rehabilitation and I-77/I-480 ramp improvements in Independence: Work on the eastbound lanes between Tuxedo Avenue and the Valley View bridge continues. Traffic has been shifted to the south side of I-480. Work is expected to be completed in November.
• I-271 resurfacing in Bedford and Oakwood: There will be work nightly in both directions closing multiple lanes of I-271. The entire project will resurface I-271 between the Summit County line and Columbus Road and is expected to be completed in June 2009.

• State Route 59 in Franklin Township: Reduced to one lane in each direction from Powder Mill Road to Menough Road while widening work occurs on the south side of Route 59 until further notice.
• State Route 59 in Ravenna: Lane restrictions in both directions between the western Ravenna city limits and state Route 88 (Freedom Street) as part of a resurfacing project. These will occur from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. daily. It is scheduled to be completed by late September.
• State Route 14 lane restrictions: From state Route 88 to the Streetsboro eastern city limits there will be various nighttime lane restrictions for resurfacing. Traffic will be maintained with flaggers. The entire project is scheduled to be complete by September.
• State Routes 14 and 225 in Palmyra and Deerfield Townships: Route 14 between state Route 183 and Giddings Road is closed until late August for a culvert replacement. A detour is posted.
• U.S. 224 resurfacing in Atwater and Deerfield Townships: From Deerfield Circle to state Route 183, there are daily lane restrictions with traffic being maintained by flaggers from 7 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. daily until late September.
• State Route 303 resurfacing in Windham Township: From state Route 88 to the eastern Windham corporation limit, there are daily lane restrictions with traffic being maintained by flaggers until mid-September.
Stark County:
• U.S. 62 and Cleveland Avenue in Canton and Plain Township: This week, U.S. 62 from I-77 to Columbus Avenue will have various lane restrictions in both directions nightly through today from 7 p.m. until 6 a.m. westbound and from 7 p.m. until 11 a.m. eastbound. Cleveland Avenue from 30th Street to U.S. 62 will have lane restrictions in both directions through Friday from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. daily. This is part of a project to resurface U.S. 62 from I-77 to Columbus Avenue as well as make minor bridge repairs. It is to be completed by late September.
• State Route 21 in Massillon and Perry Township: Route 21 from just south of the U.S. 30 interchange to Walnut Street is reduced to one lane in each direction for resurfacing work. In addition, Route 21 over the Tuscarawas River is reduced to one lane in each direction. The project also includes the redecking and painting of the twin bridges over the river. It is scheduled to be completed by June.
• State Routes 43 and 619 in Lake Township: Route 43 from the Portage County line to Route 619 will have lane restrictions for resurfacing and bridge work until late summer.
• U.S. Route 30 and Deerfield Avenue in Tuscarawas Township: U.S. 30 from Alabama Avenue to the Wayne County line has various lane restrictions for bridge work. This work is part of a project to resurface U.S. 30 from the Wayne County line to the western Massillon city limits as well as the reconstruction of the Deerfield Avenue bridge until late October.
• State Routes 153 and 173 in Nimishillen, Marlboro, Washington and Lexington Townships: Routes 73 and 44 to just west of U.S. 62, and Route 153 from the eastern Louisville corporation limit to Parks Avenue have lane restrictions for resurfacing with traffic being maintained by flaggers. The work is expected to be completed by late October.
• Fulton Drive and Wales Avenue lane restrictions in Jackson Township: The intersection of Fulton Drive and Wales Avenue has various lane restrictions for intersection reconstruction and widening. The entire project is scheduled to be completed by October 2009.
• State Route 212 closed in Bethlehem Township: The bridge over the Tuscarawas River is closed through late September for bridge re-decking.
• State Routes 93 and 212 in Brewster and Beach City: Route 93 from the Tuscarawas County line to U.S. 62 and Route 212 from the Tuscarawas County line to U.S. 250 will have various lane restrictions for resurfacing. Traffic will be maintained with flaggers. The project is to be completed by late September.
Wayne County:
• State Route 302, between the Ashland County line and County Road 30A: Restricted to one lane of two-way traffic as part of a chip seal project. It will be completed by Friday.
• State Route 94 lane restrictions: Between state Route 241 and U.S. 30, Route 94 will be restricted to one lane of two-way traffic for a resurfacing project. The work will be completed by Sept. 6.
• State Route 604 lane restrictions: Between state routes 83 and 585, one lane of two-way traffic will be maintained at all times with flaggers during a resurfacing project. The project will be completed by mid-October.
• State Route 226 lane restrictions: Between state Route 3 and the village of Shreve, Route 226 is restricted to one lane of two-way traffic as part of a spot patching project until Friday.
Elsewhere in Northeast Ohio:
• I-77, additional lane in Brecksville, Broadview Heights and Independence: Weekday lane closings are expected both daily and nightly. The Rockside Road eastbound ramp to I-77 northbound and I-77 southbound ramp to Pleasant Valley are both restricted to one narrow lane, as is the I-77 southbound ramp to Wallings Road.
• State Route 82 lane restrictions in Broadview Heights: The left lanes of state Route 82 (Royalton Road) will be closed in both directions beneath I-77 for 30 days. This is because of work taking place on the I-77 bridge and the Route 82 median.
• I-480 rehabilitation and I-77/I-480 ramp improvements in Independence: Work on the eastbound lanes between Tuxedo Avenue and the Valley View bridge continues. Traffic has been shifted to the south side of I-480. Work is expected to be completed in November.
• I-271 resurfacing in Bedford and Oakwood: There will be work nightly in both directions closing multiple lanes of I-271. The entire project will resurface I-271 between the Summit County line and Columbus Road and is expected to be completed in June 2009.
