Police arrest man with fake money

An Akron man accused of trying to make purchases with counterfeit money was arrested today.

Kevin L. Owens, 44, of Akron, is expected to appear in Barberton Municipal Court Thursday on three counts of criminal simulation.

Norton police arrested Owens after he allegedly tried to pass a fake $100 bill at the Duke and Duchess Shop, 2257 Wadsworth Road, to purchase gasoline and cigarettes.

Owens told police he won the phony $100 while gambling. He is also suspected in the passing of counterfeit $20 bills at Norton businesses.
