Pizza assault man may be headed back to prison

By Beacon Journal staff

Mark Jones, the man convicted of a 2004 assault of a customer at Davinci's Pizza in Akron that garnered nationwide attention when a videotape of the beating surfaced, is headed for prison again.

On Friday, Jones was found guilty of aggravated burglary, domestic violence and obstructing official business in an assault in June on the mother of his children.

Jones will be sentenced at 9 a.m. Friday by Summit County Common Pleas Judge Brenda Unruh.

In May, he was freed from prison on judicial release over the objection of the prosecutor. Prosecutors plan to ask the judge at the sentencing to reinstate the remaining two years of Jones' original prison sentence, in addition to time for his latest conviction.

Catch and release. Catch and release. What a joke. I think the judges are the weak link in the criminal justice system.
