YOUNGSTOWN: An Ohio killer says he's not deliberately gaining weight to keep his death sentence from being carried out.
Richard Cooey also says he believes his deep veins are a constitutional issue.
Cooey is scheduled to die Oct. 14th for raping and fatally beating two young women in Akron 22 years ago.
In a death row interview with The Associated Press, Cooey said Tuesday that his veins are too deep to insert a lethal injection and that should rule out his execution.
The 5-foot, 7-inch Cooey weighs 267 pounds and has gained 70 pounds behind bars but says he hasn't done that on purpose in hopes of staying alive.
During the hourlong interview at the state penitentiary in Youngstown, Cooey said he would take a bullet to the head if that would satisfy people.
Cooey has declined to be interviewed by Akron media, a prison spokeswoman said.

Why should they make it painless for this animal? He did not care about the pain he caused those poor girls.
DEEP VEINS ? - GET A LONGER NEEDLE
How did he gain so much weight in prison?
He needs to drink plenty of water 2-3 days before. A phlebotomist at my doc's office told me water helps make veins that normally don't appear very accessible. So bottoms up Cooey. Here's to your execution.
There are other places on the body besides the arms to hit a vain....the neck or the ankles...nice try chubby but you need to DIE!
cooey has to get it through his fat-clogged brain that no one who remembers this crime cares what or how he suffers because of it...most human beings would care less if his fat does causes him additional stress, duress and agony. the real tragedy is that this murdering, raping and disgustingly overweight-on-our-tax-dollars human being is still alive, unlike his victims. if they had fed him nothing but bread and water for all these years he wouldn't have a chubby leg to stand on. i hope his partner in this crime is able to suffer even more. so long, gooey-cooey. say HI to your victims; they won't be overweight fat slobs living off the public dole.
just keep hitting till you hit one,he didn't care how those poor young girls suffered. linda
oh well..get over it
Hey, I have an idea for this looser, this would be the perfect reason to bring back hanging just for him. Then his extra weight can help him die faster.
Why not accommodate him? Put a bullet through his head and be done with it.
If "deep veins" cause a problem, then I would suggest he be offered the choice of a firing squad, hanging, electrocution or the guillotine. That is FAR more choice than he ever gave his victims. If anyone doubts that execution reduces crime, just please remember that this man will never commit another crime against anyone, ever. That alone is sufficient deterrent for his crime. Society is lucky that they found a jury willing to give him the death sentence. That is clearly NOT always the case.
