Two injured in Medina County motorcycle crash

By Beacon Journal staff

A motorcyclist and his passenger were seriously injured in a crash this morning in Medina County.

Michael Nader, 23, of Twinsburg, and Alicia Long, 21, of Brook Park, were flown by helicopter to Akron General Medical Center, where both were listed in critical condition, according to the Ohio Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred at 9 a.m. at state Route 18 and River Styx Road just west of Interstate 71 in Montville Township.

Nader's motorcycle and two other motorcycles were spotted traveling at a high rate of speed on I-71 by the state patrol. The three motorcycles exited the highway at Route 18 and headed west, the patrol said.

Two continued west toward Medina and Nader turned south on River Styx Road, where he lost control at a curve, the patrol said.

The other two motorcycles were not located, the patrol said.

Alcohol does not appear to have been a factor in the crash, the patrol said.

The crash remains under investigation.

No mention of helmets this time... Must have been wearing them.

We are all praying for you! For those of us that knew you back in the day, like me, we know you. We know you will pull through!

I hope the statie is sleeping well. A girl dies and a guy loses his arm for a speeding ticket. Police should not chase motorcycles after a certain MPH. So senseless but I guess they will blame the rider...forget the cop who chased them down so hard he wrecked!!! I hate cops...especially when I hear of stuff like this.

WOOOO Doug. She did not die. And mention of losing arm came from who? If you have inside info like this, tell ALL. If you state these things, state the whole truth. Yes his arm was amputated. Police records show there was no pursuit called. They radioed in "Following Speeders." They did not call in a pursuit. I know BOTH sides of the story. And they should blame the rider. Did anyone mention this was the second time in a month he was chased or that he had a court date the next day for excessive speed? Does anyone realize the operator of that bike never took into consideration the safety of his passenger? The only people that hate cops are the ones who break the laws. And as Jen stated, we that know Mike are praying for him. He made a mistake. Let's all hope that he lives to learn from it.

Who cares that he had a court date? Yes, I am a rider who also runs from the cops...but never with a passenger. I heard his girl passed away...I'm glad that wasn't true. I'm just saying that the police should not be allowed to chase motorcycles unless they are involved in a felony. A simple speeding ticket is not worth somebody's life. Follow or Pursuit? Call it what you want. I'm not saying what he did was right...he should have pulled over with a passenger. I have known 17 people who wrecked this year...1 on which died. So if you have a passenger pull over...thats all I'm saying...if you don't have a passenger...FTP!!! Cops should not be allowed to chase bikes unless they are involved in a felony...bottom line.

Doug, you a bigger idiot than the knucklehead in the story. I only hope that you are wrapped around a guardrail one day so I can slow down and laugh at you as I pass the scene. You have the mentality of a rock and should have some sense beat into you, something that your parents obviously didn't do. If your ever in NY, let me know so I could take care of that for you moron!

Alicia is in a coma. critical condition. shes bleeding from her brain. and as of thursday (9/25/08) they gave her 70 hours (which is sunday night) to tell if she is going to make it or not. they gave her a shot thursday and she moved her finger from the pain. which means she is semi-responsive. all the cheerleaders are praying for you alicia. stay strong. we cant afford to let you go! please pray for alicia. we love her so much. and shes an insperation to all of us. she'll pull through. Alicia is a co-worker of mine and a very good, kind caring nurse. Reguardless of what happened it did, alot of us our mad and sad but nothen is going to change that now. What Alicia needs is alot of prayers and a good medical team to take care of her now, Not someone arguing about the law. My prayers goes out to Alicia and her Family

Sorry Wheeliez, It just burns me up to see guys like Doug justify breaking the law. His second grade mentality irks me to no end. When are these kids going to realize that their dumb decisions affect more people than they think. God has a way of weeding these guys out of society. I'd like to see what Doug would have to say if that was his sister on the back of that bike. Oh, and I am sorry for offending any second graders. They are probably alot smarter than Doug is. I hope to God that the young lady makes it through this.

Prayers are needed for them both, pray Mike learns from this one.

He kinda does have a point though. police shouldnt be allowed to chase after a certain point. it becomes too dangerous.

yllib1961

Posted 07:02 AM, 09/27/2008

The police do have a policy as to when a pursuit is called off due to dangerous situations. In this case as was mentioned above, there didn't seem to be a pursuit going on at that time. Any biker I've ever seen on the roads by me weaving in and out of traffic at triple digit speeds never had the police chasing them. Lets be realistic here. These young kids are breaking the law, period! They ride these sportbikes irresponsibly, giving all law abiding bikers a bad rap. If the police light you up for an infraction, you pull over and take the heat for your actions!

OK NO ONE KNOWS THE REAL STORY AND IF YOU THINK YOU DO YOUR WRONG, PLEASE DONT POST THINGS ABOUT MY LITTLE SISTER IF YOU DONT TRULY KNOW WHATS GONING ON. FIST AND FOR MOST LET ME SAY THIS I FEEL BAD FOR THE FAMILY OF THE JURK THAT PUT HIMSELF BEFORE MY LEI-LEI BUT IN THE LONG RUN HE WILL GET WHAT HE DESERVES. BUT LETS ALL LEARN FROM THIS, THAT YOU DONT GET ON A BIKE WITH SOMEONE YOU CANNOT TRUST YOUR-OWN LIFE WITH AND THE BIKES ARE NOT AT ALL THE PROBLEM ITS THE JURKS THAT RIDE THEM. OK NOW NO ONE CAN NO THE TRUE OUT COME OF ALICIA AT THIS TIME ALL WE CAN SAY IS SHES IMPROVING ALL WE TRULY NEED TO DO IS PRAY AND KEEP HER IN YOU THOUGHTS THE FAMILY TOTAL APPRICATES ALL THE DETACATION AND DEVOTION BY HER FRIENDS I THINK THEY HAVE HELPED THIS FAMILY IN A BIG WAY. THE FAMILY AND CLOSE FRIENDS ARE GOING TO BE SETTING UP A WEB SITE TO HAVE UPDATES ON HER STATUS. BUT IN THE END ALL WE WANT IS OUR PRINCESS ALICA BACK. THANK YOU "KEEP PRAYING"

I have no ill will towards the driver Mike Nader. I do not know him. He made a mistake which cannot be taken back. I am Alicia's father. The pain I feel is undescribable. I know his family is feeling the same. As I pray for my daughter I pray for him and his family too. Love and prayer is whats needed not hate towards Mike or the police. May God help us through this.

Both alicia and mike need your prayers right now. the criticism that comes from such an article is unnecessary. yes, WE were all stupid that night, however, if one was to take a look back on his life i'm sure that they would be able to say that they have done something that warrants a big WTF was i thinking?! so please keep both of them in your prayers, because they are both good people that made a mistake. that's why it's called an accident. i love you alicia, i wish you the best mike.
xoxo.

I agree 100% with Amanda...All 6 of us made poor decisions that night, the boys speeding and us getting on the bikes...there is no room for criticsm only room for praying for Alicia and Mike and both of their families. We have all learned a HUGE life lesson in this. She is a fighter and is going to pull through!!!! I mean hell, after one week she looks AMazing!!!!! I love you Alicia more than life itself and cant wait for AKA (VIP) to be back and running! I wish the best for Mike and his Family.
