Akron man gets 16 years in prison for shooting

By Beacon Journal staff

An Akron man has been sentenced to 16 years in prison for shooting a man last spring.

Tyree D. Halsell, 23, was sentenced this morning in Summit County Common Pleas Court by Judge Judith Hunter.

Halsell, 23, was convicted of attempted murder in the April 18 shooting of Dion Stephens of Akron near Nome and Bellevue avenues.

Prosecutors said Halsell fired five to six shots and one bullet entered Stephens' abdomen and exited on the left side.

A jury earlier this year convicted Halsell of additional charges, including felonious assault and receiving stolen property.
