A 90-year-old Akron woman, about to be evicted from her La Croix Avenue home for failing to pay her mortgage, apparently shot herself Wednesday while Summit County sheriff's deputies were knocking on her door.
A neighbor and the deputies found Addie Polk in an upstairs bedroom suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to her upper body. A handgun was found near her.
She was taken to Akron General Medical Center, police said, and is expected to recover.

A 90 year old being evicted. Here is just another example of the problems in our society. We sure don't take care of all of our elderly people.
FAIL!
Unspeakably sad
Does she not have a family member to help her at all?!? Why does anyone have a mortgage at 90???
Sad, yes. Still, if you don't pay you don't stay.
Tim, you are an idiot.
Thought the media had an unwritten rule about publicizing suicides? The ABJ must not be part of the media.
How sad this is!
What is a 90 year old doing with a mortgage in the first place? Was she a victim of a predatory refinancing scheme or a predatory family member that needed money and she mortgaged her house to get it? I bet there is a really sorry backstory here.....
Tough crowd out there. A 90 year old woman is probably on a fixed income. Social Security doesn't rise with taxes and inflation. Reminds me of the depression when people were jumping out windows and such.
ABJ could have left her name out of this. She's got enough problems! What's wrong with your editorial staff?!
$700,000,000,000 for Wall Street crooks who got stinking rich on predatory lending, and a bullet for a 90-year woman unable to pay her mortgage. Family values at work in America today!

If you read the article, it says that she is expected to recover.
It was probably due to having to pay medical bills and prescripyions at her age, not to mention the price of food. The poor lady might need assistance not eviction.
Colleen - you are a she-male.
This news is really sad!
