COLUMBUS: A poll finds that by a 9-point margin, Ohio voters are willing to bet on a southwest Ohio casino that proponents say will create at least 5,000 jobs.
The Columbus Dispatch reports today that 50 percent of likely Ohio voters support a ballot measure to allow a $600 million casino resort near Wilmington. Forty-one percent are opposed, and 9 percent are undecided.
The newspaper's poll of nearly 2,300 Ohioans likely to vote was conducted Sept. 24-Oct. 3. The margin of sampling error is plus or minus 2 percentage points.
Developers say the casino project would mean not only jobs but also income for each of Ohio's 88 counties.
But a campaign funded by owners of an Indiana casino argues that the ballot proposal would create a casino monopoly in Ohio.

Excellent! It is time Ohioans are given the power to make their own decisions about gambling, not to mention the fact that jobs are dearly needed.
Yeah!!! Finally some good news...
why are people against this? Is there some aspect of this that is negative? New jobs, new revenue coming to Ohio, what is bad about this?
I completely agree. What are we afraid of here in Ohio. This would be good for us. Money staying in Ohio instead of leaving. A new revenue stream and a formula for job creation...wow!
Look at where the opposition is coming from. Owner-operators of the closest existing casino are bankrolling the efforts to defeat this issue. They see their gravy train derailing if Ohio votes TES.
I am all for the casino's. Wish they would put one in North East Ohio!!!
What people have negative in their minds is the fact that people in Ohio who are already broke, not being able to afford their mortgage, bills, etc, will blow all the rest of their money in these casino's and could cause crisis to others as well!!
But this is good news! My vote will be yes!
A monopoly...and more evil.......boozing and prostitution follows gamblers....if not...they (the gamblers)cannot give to church anymore, nor come home with a pay check....thereby evil is reinstated in Ohio, after such a hard fight for many years by good righteous ohioans....
Oh, my, yes. We all know how boozing and prostitution pop up right outside those church bingo games and Ohio Lottery sales outlets.
Here's a flash for you, Peter - lots of women go to casinos and we are not into prostitution. Here's another flash for you - gambling addicts don't have to go to casinos to feed their demons.
WOW! Boozing and prostitution where a casino is... Then there must be a casino in Highland Square!
Must be one near Rolling Acres, Brittain Road and South Arlington, too !!
