A North Canton resident who lived one block from a man who was found beheaded Saturday was arrested early this morning and charged with vandalizing his dead neighbor's electric meter box in the Evergreen Mobile Home Complex.
William D. Perry, 41, was arrested at 1:14 a.m. today at the Canton Police Department by North Canton police and charged with felony vandalism.
''A warrant was issued Monday and [Perry] was picked up in Canton by Canton police,'' North Canton Police Chief Michael Grimes said.
Perry lives at 94 Cedar St. N.W.
He is scheduled to appear at 9 a.m. Wednesday in Canton Municipal Court.
Brett W. Smith, who was found decapitated in the bathroom of his mobile home, lived alone at 81 Balsam St.
Bond was set at $150,000 for the fourth-degree vandalism felony, and Perry was taken to Stark County Jail.
Grimes said Smith's electric meter box was smashed on Sept. 30, but the chief would not comment on whether the vandalism and the death were thought to be related.
He said he could not release any more details because the investigation into Smith's death is ongoing.
The body of Smith, a 1993 Lake High School graduate, was found shortly after 7 p.m. Saturday by his mother, Judy Smith of Hartville.
Judy Smith said she and a neighbor broke in to Brett's mobile home to check on him after several attempts to reach him throughout the day had failed.
A spokeswoman for the Stark County Coroner's Office said an autopsy on Smith was scheduled to be performed this afternoon.
North Canton police said in a report that Smith's death was being investigated as a homicide. The report says an ``unknown person entered residence, committed murder and set fire.''

150 K for a vandalism charge... YEAH RIGHT...
Mebbe Perry was acting on behalf of the Barbertucky Fire Department. Gotta problem? Pull those meters!
An autopsy? Maybe he died because he lost his head.
Smashed electric meter to try to cover up crime time.
Got it.
I am going to keep his mother in my prayers, i could not imagine finding my son in that way, god please look after her.
This story just keeps gettin wierder & wierder...
I feel sorry for this mother. Who ever did this crime is sick and twisted.
