A fire at a vacant house in Akron this morning began when smoking materials ignited a mattress on the second floor, firefighters said.
Akron firefighters responded to the blaze in the 100 block of Miller Avenue in South Akron about 10 a.m.
The fire was under control by about 10:20 a.m.
There were no injuries.
Cigarette butts were found throughout the house. However, firefighters do not know what kind of discarded smoking materials led to the blaze, Akron Fire Department spokesman Ed Sturkey said.
Damage was estimated at about $10,000; the house was valued at about $50,000.
