Pair of Akron fires blamed on food left cooking

By Beacon Journal staff

Food left cooking on stoves was responsible for two fires Wednesday in Akron.

No one was hurt in either fire.

A home in the 900 block of Grace Avenue was filled with smoke when firefighters arrived on the scene at 12:30 p.m. The fire caused minimal damage to the residence, Akron Fire Department public information officer John Gordon said.

At 6:30 p.m., the department responded to a fire in an apartment building in the 900 block of Jefferson Avenue.

The residents of the building were outside when firefighters arrived, Gordon said.

The fire caused $15,000 worth of damage to the contents of the building.
