Woman's car stolen at ATM

By Beacon Journal staff

A woman was able to stop a robber from stealing her money — but not her car — at an Akron bank early this morning.

Akron police said the 65-year-old woman was out of her car using an ATM at Chase Bank, 632 E. Market St., about 5:30 a.m., when she was approached by another woman who tried to grab her money.

After the assailant was unable to take the money out of the victim's hand, she jumped into the woman's car and drove away, police said.

The victim was not injured in the incident.

Police are asking for help in locating the victim's 2007 Chevrolet Monte Carlo with Ohio license plate LEXI-101.

The assailant is described as a black female 25 to 30 years old. She is between 5 feet 2 inches and 5 feet 5 inches tall and weighs about 160 pounds. She was possibly wearing red or green clothing.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Akron Police Department at 330-375-2490.
