Body found in Akron backyard

By Phil Trexler
Beacon Journal staff writer

Akron police are investigating the death of a man whose shirtless body was found around noon today in the backyard of a home on Triplett Boulevard.

The identity of the man has not yet been released.

Police believe they have identified the body, but will await fingerprint comparisons before releasing his name. Foul play is suspected.

A relative of the man arrived at the scene and appeared overcome with emotion. The woman was escorted to an ambulance to be treated by Akron EMS workers.

The Summit County Medical Examiner's Office will conduct an autopsy Friday on the man's body.

Tim Grisak, 68, said he was outside his home in the 1100 block of Triplett Boulevard smoking a cigarette when he saw the body from his back porch. He called to his brother, Nick, who checked on the body and then called 911.

''When I turned to come back inside, here I seen a guy laying in the back yard,'' Tim Grisak said. ''It was kind of creepy. I was a meat cutter and I've seen a lot of dead animals, but I never seen a dead person. So, I was a little bit shook up.''

Nick Grisak said he saw no blood. The brothers believe the body was there for less than 12 hours.

''I walked within about 20 feet to see if he was breathing because he had no shirt on,'' Nick Grisak said. ''I didn't see no breathing, so I came back in the house and called 911.''

Authorities scoured the area for footprints in the snow and other evidence before removing the body around 2 p.m. Police are trying to track the man's final hours. They have no suspects.
