Kent State names interim dean

Kent State University has named Jeff Fruit, director of the School of Journalism and Mass Communication, to interim dean of the College of Communication and Information.

The appointment is effective Jan. 1.

Fruit will succeed James Gaudino, who is leaving Kent State to become president of Central Washington University.

Fruit, who joined Kent State in 1998, is in his seventh year as director of the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Kent State.

Fruit's previous jobs include posts at daily, weekly and monthly publications. At American City Business Journals, he worked as editor of South Florida Business Journal and publisher of Dallas Business Journal.

Fruit received a bachelor's degree in journalism and history from Ohio Wesleyan and a master's degree in journalism from Ohio State University.
