AKRON: Fair Housing Contact Service has filed 104 complaints against Craigslist.com, arguing the online site violated state and federal housing laws by allowing discriminatory advertisements.
The complaints were filed with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
Fair Housing Contact Service, based in Akron, alleged that some of the ads sought individuals without children, while others indicated preferences based on disability, sex and religion.
Nineteen of the ads involved housing in the Akron/Canton area, while the majority were from the Columbus area, the group said.
''Because people increasingly use the Internet to search for housing, it is that much more important that online content be appropriately screened for discriminatory content,'' said the group's enforcement coordinator, Kris Keniray.
Craigslist could not be reached to comment.

Groups should know:
Their little warning text at the top IS NOT ENOUGH. There is an EXPECTATION of a REASONABLE effort as well.
Landlords should be able to rent their property to whomever they want.
They do Eric. they just have to know how to get around the rules.
