UPDATE 1: Plane crashes in Lake Township neighborhood

By Beacon Journal staff

A private plane making its final approach to Akron-Canton Airport's Runway 23 has crashed, said Kristie Van Auken, spokeswoman for the airport.

Van Auken identified the plane as a Piper Saratoga, a single-engine propeller craft capable of carrying up to six passengers.

The plane crashed into the yard of a home on Charloais Street NW in Lake Township.

Van Auken said she didn't know how many people were on board, nor did she know where the plane was coming from. She didn't think the plane was based at the Akron-Canton Airport, but said, ''We can't verify that at this time.''

Van Auken said the Greentown Fire Department was at the scene, along with the State Highway Patrol.

A resident who lives near the crash site said she first heard the plane, then heard an explosion before seeing flames from her window.

Stark County Coroner P.S. Murthy confirmed that it was a fatal crash, but would not elaborate.

Van Auken said several members of the airport operations staff were at the crash scene, but no airport fire equipment was dispatched.

Coincidence or not? To testify regarding Rove and his knowledge of his connection to the Administration's policies in Iraq and the war on terror.
