Winter blast brings hazardous road conditions, school delays

By Beacon Journal staff

Motorists may experience slow going this morning due to black ice that has built up on roadways under snow that continues to fall for the morning rush hour.

''It's really slick out there. We have a full compliment of 51 units out on the roads. But temperatures are at the point where treatment may not always be as effective,'' said Paul Barnett, road maintenance supervisor for the city of Akron.

The Stark-Summit post of the Ohio Highway Patrol said road conditions are responsible for many accidents this morning, especially in Stark County.

''Crashes are everywhere. I can't even tell you where. Each one is as bad as the next,'' a dispatcher said earlier today.

The Summit County Sheriff's Office is reporting accidents in Green. The Highway Patrol reports several accidents in Portage County as well.

Dalton, North Central, Kingsway Christian and Sts. Peter and Paul schools in Wayne County are delayed. The Wayne County Board of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities is also delayed this morning.

And some people wonder why Midwest cities rank lowest(compared to the West and South) as desirable places to live for those 18-34. Just look out your window.

At least the rotten local weather takes our minds off the rotten local politicians. At least until you realize your street hasn't been plowed.

More beet juice, Paul!

Nevermind...you mean Barnett. By the way, I hope it snows like crazy this weekend when no one will come in to work overtime for free.

Wow, it's 79 today here in Fla. Nice warm breeze blowing off of the Atlantic, palm frons blowing in the wind, the smell of sunscreen oil and barbecue, Ah, how I miss Akron with all of the crime and the crackheads. What I would give to be driving down Arlington St dodging potholes, bullets, and idiot minorities walking in the streets with there pants pulled down around there bottoms. The good life!!!LOL
