Taser victim moved from Akron General

By Rick Armon
Beacon Journal staff writer

The former inmate who was shot with a Taser at the Summit County Jail about a week ago has been moved from Akron General Medical Center to a mental health facility, a family attorney said Monday.

Gregory Dillard, 21, of Akron, is being treated at Northcoast Behavioral Healthcare, attorney Eddie Sipplen said.

The sheriff's office said Monday that Dillard was released from the hospital late Friday night and is expected to make a full recovery from his physical injuries.

Sipplen disputed the statement about Dillard's recovery, saying that's not known and medical officials are looking into head injuries.

''He may have been hit in the back of the head with a flashlight,'' Sipplen said.

Sheriff's spokeswoman Christine Croce called the flashlight allegation ''completely untrue'' and said deputies at the jail ''don't even carry flashlights.''

Dillard has told investigators that he doesn't remember anything from the Feb. 21 incident, Croce said. He asked during an interview with authorities if he hurt the two deputies involved, she said.

Dillard, who was in the jail's mental health unit, charged at two deputies and was shot with the Taser and shocked once, according to authorities. The deputies were handing him a clean uniform after he had taken off his uniform and flooded his jail cell, authorities said.

After being shot, Dillard collapsed and had to be revived. He was in the intensive care unit in a medically induced coma for a while, according to his family.

Sheriff's detectives are investigating the incident and expect to turn over their findings this week to the county prosecutor.

Dillard's family has said he suffers from mental illness.

He was in the jail on charges of assault and marijuana possession. Authorities have said he has been in the jail 11 times for violence-related and drug charges.

Another 'model' citizen that spends his days using up the city's, county's and state's resources without paying into the system that supports him. To add insult to that equation, he and his mother are looking for a payday. Another great examples of USERS of the system!

All I can say is, "God Bless America". I hope Obama can figure out a way to get his "Black Friends" to act normal like us white folks.

Yeah, I'm so sure that no one in a uniform lost their temper and hit him in the head.

Yeah right.

Don't carry flashlights? Hello!

Finally, he is were he needs to be to get treatment. best wishes to his family. jails are not a mental health facility, do not expect them to be. jails provide only basic services. when the money in the budget runs out, no more service. plain and simple. the city/county doesn't give the jail blank checks to fill out for every need.
