First Energy just laid off hundreds of employees this morning, so that will increase Summit's percentages further.

@Spirit of Reagan--Have you checked the classified ads in the paper lately? There are NO JOBS!! These people have no where to "go back to work." If you've got openings for the 400 soon to be laid off from Timken those laid off from First Energy the 114 laid off from Sterling Jewelers in January, please speak up and let these people know.

Bridget - the ABJ is the last place anyone should look for a job these days. The ABJ charges so much for their ads now that employers no longer use them for job ads. It's the Internet baby if you want to find a job like Career Builder or Akron Jobs Now websites for example. Meanwhile, the employment picture is approaching depression levels. Nothing seems to be bringing the USA out of it's economic funk.

Bridget is right on with this. If anyone is out of work and searching, you are screwed, especially those who have marketable skills like me. My trade is way down and not looking too good right now. Unfortunately, I do not have the income coming in to advance my education or else I would do just that. IOW, I'm pretty muck f#ck3d.

things are getting worse everyday and everyday we keep bailing out people who dont know how to run their businesses properly. They just keep profiting. I just realized on SUNDAY there is no classified ads; I thought I just didn't get that section of the paper. Try to hang in there everyone, hopefully time will turn all of this around.

It is going to get a lot worse before it gets better. Our economy is in crisis because it was built on a shaky foundation of cooked books and financial irresponsibility. Perhaps this crisis will give us a chance to get back to ethical business practices and start holding those in charge accountable for their actions.

Spirit of Reagan
Richfield, OH

Posted 03:32 PM, 03/03/2009

Lebowski - most companies are led by ethical executives. The problem is the gov't policies around housing led to all of this cheap lending to people that shouldn't even have homes. This led to a major bubble.

The problem we face now and the markets (which are forward looking) reflect is that Obama's prescription is worse than the problems we face. His plans to punish the achievers is shocking and will ultimately result in less investment and growth.

Yes, I have found that Indeed.com is pretty good. Also try resumebucket.com and ohiomeansjobs.com.

I've had a little action stirred up on monster.com and also on Craigs List too but so far nothing concrete.

I have also sent resumes to people who do not have ads up right now but are people that I know of who are in the same profession I am and also some folks who I have had dealings with in the past. I never burnt any bridges in the event I may need to walk across them again someday.

Where do you find this stuff? Please share your sources. Once again, us progressives are only getting half the story.

Or just fess up and tell everyone this is just your opinion of the situation and your position, as normal, is devoid of anything factual.

Reagan- As reported tonight on NBC, 84% of Americans feel Obama inherited a huge problem, and he holds a 60% approval...Having said this, I do know 600 billion has been spent in Iraq...Yes, there are some lofty social spending plans which would have to go through congress. Yet, given the dimensions of todays congressional hearings, and the magnitude of debt, I think lofty social spending plans will take a back seat.

spirit of reagan- what rush isnt telling you is that obama's numbers are a total budget. those iraq, afghanistan and katrina numbers were just THOSE instances. did rush tell you the other side of that?

how many of those houses in the urban areas that foreclosed are part of the problem as opposed to all those houses in copley, solon, hudson etc? who lost more money?

and boosh contributed MORE money to the middle east over each of the past 8 years than obama has proposed this year.

to all the unemployed- who want to work-
KEEP YOUR HEAD UP!!!! things will get better, they always do.

@ angry_black: I certainly hope you are right on with your prediction of things getting better. I've been in the hunt since mid-January and so far I have sent out hundreds of resumes. I'm on about 50 job boards too. I have sent out an average of at least 5 per day for jobs I can do.

I have found out that a lot of companies are taking resumes in the anticipation that jobs are going to become available in the next month or two, so it is good to at least get your foot in the door that way. I've had a couple interviews. Nothing concrete as of yet though!

Unfortunately, it has come time to make major decisions and only pay the important things per month, like car, mortgage, insurance, gas, utilities, internet (for job searching), and food. The credit cards?? Oh well....they are not getting anything this month and I will more than likely have to consider bankruptcy on those debts. If it is a problem for them, let them call Bush and see if he has some more bank bailout money for them. Sad, but it has come down to that. At least I'll still have my home though.

It is bad when you go from making 50K a year down to 25K on unemployment. Tough decisions have to be made.

One thing to do if you are in the job search is to track any and all expenses that you have while job searching that are related to your job search. Keep track of your internet bills, phone bills, cellular bills, computer and printer supplies, and mileage. You can write this stuff off on your taxes if you are filing the long form.

Worst case scenario at this point is that I'd have the whole summer off. I hope it does not get that far though.

So what. I'd rather see us spending money here making things better FOR OUR CITIZENS than be paying KBR, Halliburton, et al, investors for toilets in the desert.

Where's all your angst about corporate welfare and sub-3% corporate effective tax rates??

Steel mills closed shop, laying off thousands. Shoe factories and clothes factories shut their doors and moved oversees. Government was of no help, and we didn't have alot of those government freebies like EIC and day care subsidies, along with mortgage bailouts. Oh, do you know there is a private program that will buy bad mortgages and help a troubled homeowner? gee, a program not relying on government funds. (NACA)

Get ready to add a more to this number come June when the fiscal year is about to end for the State of Ohio. The state plans to lay off a large number of employees, including public safety, corrections officers and parole officers. This mean more criminals on the streets, less parole officers watchign them, more criminals with no jobs to go to, so they will resort back to crime, and WE will all be the victims of that crime. Strickland wants to bust up the unions of state workers and let the criminals run free.

More criminals no jobs for them less parole officers no where to put the criminals= Bad news for everyone
