Ohio motorist saves baby from runaway Amish buggy

By Associated Press

BURTON: When their horse took off with a baby in its buggy, two frantic Amish women in Ohio relied on a nursing student with a car to retrieve the child safely.

Thirty-seven-year-old Michelle Rowell says she was driving Wednesday evening near her home in rural Geauga County when she noticed a buggy that didn't seem to have anyone inside.

Just then, she saw an Amish woman in the road screaming for help. Rowell picked up that woman and another who was the 1-year-old boy's mother and was also very anxious.

Amish people generally shun modern conveniences such as motor vehicles but sometimes enlist non-Amish as drivers.

Rowell phoned 911, but the two women wouldn't give any information.

Before long, the car was able to get in front of the horse to stop it.

have to wonder why one woman hadn't handed out the baby to the other before getting out of the buggy

and what spooked the horse to take off?

A big salute to Michelle from Amish Al and all of us.

Just last month The Budget reported a horse took off with an unattended buggy in Walnut Creek. These dummkup beasts are starting to get a mind of their own!

Imagine that little feller will someday impress the ladies during Rumspringa with his tale of manning a buggy at age one.

Amish. Proof that religion can corrupt the mind.

"The two women wouldn't give any information"??? What a bunch of idiots the Amish are. I also note that I see a hell of a lot of Amish who wear glasses. If their beliefs were adhered to by all, they would be walking around blind. Oh, that's right, that's what all religious people do.

Shame on you Amish-haters.

What would Ohio be like without Guggiesburg Cheese, Crazy Quilts, and Trail Bologna?

Aesels! Be hexed!

@ A different TonyZ

Yeah, I agree there, my in-laws just had an entertainment system built by the Amish for a good price, and the quality was superb.
