Investigators have three or more interviews to complete as the investigation continues into last week's fire in Portage County that killed two people.
The cause of the blaze that killed Ravenna Record-Courier reporter Marci Piltz and her friend David Smith is still undetermined, said Shane Cartmill, public information officer for the Division of State Fire Marshal.
Along with the interviews that must be conducted, ''we are waiting on toxicology reports from the coroner's office,'' Cartmill said. ''Investigators can't make a determination at least until then, perhaps longer.''
Authorities last week said Piltz, 30, and Smith, 37, died of smoke inhalation.
''It is important that with any fire investigation, especially those with a loss of human life, that our investigators are thorough and methodical in their work,'' Cartmill said.
''We do not want to rush to any conclusions and we try not to leave any stone unturned.''
The midafternoon fire on March 19 originated in a screened room at the back of the home on Aberagg Road.
Along with the fire marshal, the Portage County sheriff, Summit County Medical Examiner's office and Randolph Township Fire Department are assisting in the investigation.
