Woman commits suicide, lands on teen at New York mall

By Associated Press

NEW YORK: Authorities say a woman who jumped to her death inside a busy New York City mall landed on a teenager, causing injuries that sent him to a hospital.

The lower level of the Queens Center Mall was packed with high school students on spring break when the woman jumped Wednesday.

Seventeen-year-old Derrick MuInoz had been sitting in a massage chair with a sign reading, ‘‘sit back and relax,’’ when the woman landed on him.

The teen's stepbrother says Munoz was briefly knocked unconscious and has a large gash on his head.

Queens District Attorney Richard A. Brown says the woman was in her early to mid-50s. She was with two teenagers before she plunged from the third floor.

Fencing the Y bridge would've prevented this woman from ending her life, and traumatizing the teen...oh wait maybe fencing the Y bridge will cause more people to commit "suicide by cop" as first recognized in my home town...

How did authorities determine jump vs. push or accident? honest question (I don't watch CSI); I dunno.

"makes you just as bad..." then you must agree. I am simply stating a fact. Sarcasam is fine...where it belongs...but to some, your sarcasam ( and those that feed off of it) sounds as if it is your honest viewpoint. And how does that make you look? Nothing wrong with sarcasam, but have some sensitivity when applying.

Let's just hope that area has some stimulus money available to fence the mall. Maybe the idiot mayor of Akron could work a deal with them to get a quantity discount on the fence.

"Sit back and relax", how ironic is that?

Crime of the Century
Cuyahoga Falls, OH

CarolynC, enough of the humor police routine. At no point did anyone make light of this woman's death, there was an editorial comment (and a darn good one, hee hee!) made in reference to Mayor Don's 1.5 million fence blunder. Opposing the fence plans does not in and of itself make one insensitive or "pro-death." The debate is centered on the efficacy of the fence project itself; would we get our money's worth out of it.

If you're going to condescend to people, at least get it in the right context.

"If this was your mother, would you find it funny"

Personally ... I'm not sure. Probably not ... But I did laugh at my dad when he fell on the ice. He looked kind of funny holding onto the side mirror of his truck. Both of his legs just sort of kept skidding out from under him ... The only thing keeping him from hitting the ground was the mirror. He was holding on for dear life ... It was pretty funny at the time ... Guess you had to be there to see the humor.

this was one stupid suicidal person.did she not 'look before you jump'? thats the first rule of suicidal jumping off of objects to end life-it was HER CHOICE TO JUMP.

she should of done like Crakronites do and just fly like a bird off the great Y bridge.

maybe she was 'one fry shy of a happy meal'

win1car- if it were my mother i would be p.o.'d that i couldn't collect on the life insurance policy. if people want to die there is no one stopping them, no matter how hard you try.

Steve

Posted 12:13 PM, 04/10/2009

Some of you are really sick.

Ouch would be mad they can't collect on the insurance. Well I would be sad because I lost my mother. But then some of you must really hate your parents and everybody around you.

To those who say "It was only sarcasm, I was just joking." Yeah, and we could all tell because this is a text post that shows all your emotions and intent at humor. If you're joking or being sarcastic, try using a :) or ;)

And to those who keep harping on the Y-Bridge fence, I know you hae a hundred better ways to spend that money. Too bad none of them apply to the restrictions in place on certain grants and funds supplied by the federal government to the cities and states. But that doesn't matter to you, rational thought and reasoning are beyond many of you. Its easier to sling insults and complain about everything around you. (Yes, now I'm doing it too!)
