Lawrence Township teen hurt in crash dies

By Beacon Journal staff

The Summit County Medical Examiner's Office and the Lawrence Township Police Department are investigating the death of a Lawrence Township teen Wednesday.

Ryan Ostronisky, 17, died about 10:45 a.m. at Akron Children's Hospital, where he was taken following a traffic accident that occurred May 10, the medical examiner's office said.

Authorities said Ostronisky was traveling south on Warwick Drive in Lawrence Township at a high rate of speed when he lost control of the 2004 Pontiac Grand Am he was driving and went off the road. The vehicle hit an embankment and rolled several times.

An autopsy is scheduled for today, said Gary Gunther, an investigator for the medical examiner's office.

Good job on reporting this sad and tragic event, ABJ. There is no "Warick Road" in Canal Fulton or Lawrence Twp. It's WARWICK Drive. The boy is from Lawrence Township, not Canal Fulton.

Maybe you could make an effort to write an accurate article and mention something nice about this boy? The Canton Rep went the extra mile. You didn't even get the basic facts right.

john i went to northwest.. and lived in canal fulton for about 15 years..

i (and my whole family) refer to it as warwick road..

lets be realistic here.. does it really matter THAT much? the poor kid died, sheesh.

First of all John, no where in the story above did it mention that this boy was from Canal Fulton; it specifically said he was from Lawrence Township. Second, the site where this boy crashed was actually Lawrence Township's jurisdiction for police and fire response. You should do more research before you post your comments!

My deepest sympathy goes out to Ryan's family and friends!

I agree with kbad. A wonderful kid has passed away and his family and friends are devestated. I'll pray for the family.

My thoughts and prayers go to the Ostronisky family. No parent should have to go through what they are going through today.

My son was in the ICU next to Ryan when he was brought in. After our son's transfer to Cincinnati Children's Hospital we have been hoping for the best for him and his family. Such a tragedy, and nothing can ease the pain his family and friends must be feeling.

Yes it hurts the family, but at least he didn't kill or hurt any one else. These young pin heads drive like fools and endanger every one on the road. They are always in a hurry to go no where. Every time I see one fly by all I can think of is I hope they find a tree to take out their idiotic actions before they kill some one else.

Heck yea. Never really wish anyone to die, but they need to feel pain these days to learn their lesson. Hopefully this would be a lesson for everyone else in his high school

Kbad and Ray - I also lived in Canal Fulton and went to Northwest Schools.
My post was made before the the ABJ updated their story later in the day. You have to remember that ABJ has the power to come back and update stories throughout the day.

If you look closely, I said they wrote "Warick" not "WarWICK." They misspelled the road name in the initial report. The fact that they got the Road/Drive part wrong too wasn't what I was talking about.

The earlier version of the story also said he was from Canal Fulton, and I pointed out the inaccuracy.

My criticism was about faulty reporting and not an attempt to trivialize the tragedy. Note that I stated I felt it was a sad and tragic event. I felt that the least the paper could do was get the facts right and maybe make an effort to write a few nice things about this boy. The Canton Rep did a good job with an accurate, sensitive and caring report and included nice things to say about him. The ABJ messed up the facts of the matter (bad reporting) and didn't even tell us about what a good kid this boy is (thoughtless reporting).

Please don't jump down my back. I certainly wasn't trying to say anything bad about Ryan.

samelamestory and PsychoJ

I understand where you are coming from with your comments, but remember that even good, smart kids like Ryan make bad choices sometimes. I sincerely hope that when you wish that they "find a tree" the next time you see someone driving in an unsafe manner that you think about what the Ostranisky family is going through right now.

I am assuming that you don't have children, because if you did you would pray to whatever God you pray to (if you do)that your kids won't meet the same fate as Ryan as a consequence of their actions. Lord knows I made some poor choices myself when I was 17. For whatever reason, God chose to take Ryan while I am still here.

What a sad time for a loving and caring family. No parent should have to go through what they are going through right now.

A good boy he maybe but doing something very VERY stupid. He shouldn't have lost his life unless he took another for being stupid. I hope all you high school kids that don't have a good head on your shoulders are reading this. This isn't a game, but if you want to win in the game, follow the rules of the game and stay around the speed limit.

John

I did the same thing on the same roads when I was the same age. Almost all kids do this. I hope those of you calling this boy or other kids names or saying "at least he didn't hurt anyone else" would get a clue. Every kid does something at some point that is foolish or unsafe. Every kid.

Criticising and pretending like you are the end all be all authority on these matters of safety and responsibility is a bit pretentious and hypocritical don't you think?

Say something good about the kid or leave it be.

@concernedparent

Yes God chose for whatever reason Ryan instead of any of us, and no one person isn't thinking of "Ostronisky" is going through that read this article, but what are we as a society going to do to educate teens in driving. We can't fend off gods plan for everyone but we can certainly use what he gave us to survive.

I didn't know Ryan but I did see the suffering and pain his family went through while their son lay dying in the ICU at Children's. I pray that no one who is reading this ever has to go through the heartache this family has suffered. My heart goes out to them. This was a senseless act that should never have happened. Let's all learn a lesson and go home and hug our loved ones tonight.

What a tragic thing to happen to such a young person. I have a 17 yr old driver and I worry when he leaves the house to drive himself somewhere. I pray that he does not do something crazy in the car. There is no amount of driving classes that will teach a kid what life experiences does. I drive differently about 30 or so years later then I did when I was 17 because I have learned from seeing my friends die in car crashes.

I pray for the family of this young man.

The fact that you had to correct me on my misspelling of Ryan's last name says a lot about you.

I only wish you good will and I hope you don't "find a tree" while driving.

huh? Stop trying to read between the lines. I never explicitly mention your mispelling of his last name, nor have I wished anyone to find a tree while driving. You don't know me and I don't know you.

The fact you gave such a hipocritical comment says alot about you.
