A 22-year-old Akron man was arrested early Saturday after police said they found an AK-47 assault rifle in the vehicle he was driving.
Authorities said Michael J. Slayko Jr. of Portage Drive was seen waving an assault rifle around a parking lot on Weathervane Lane during a fight at 1:30 a.m.
Slayko was arrested after a traffic stop at Ghent and Smith roads, where the rifle reportedly was found behind the front passenger seat.
He was arrested for carrying a concealed weapon and improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle, police said.
Police officers from Bath Township and Fairlawn assisted in the traffic stop.

I heard about this. It seems there was a sharks vs. jets rumble after the theater let out.
Darn community theater types. They are just nithing but trouble.
Slay-ko
great job police, get the idiots off the streets
What about his second amendment rights? Since he was waving the gun about, it was not a concealed weapon. If we allow police to stop an American citizen proudly displaying his firearm for all to see, we taking the first step down the slippery slope to registration and confiscation which plays straight into the hands of al quada, the ACLU, and the international communist conspiracy.
What a jerk. Every knows that and AR-15 is a much better choice to brandish!
Truly the one of the sharpest pencils. I wonder if he had a license to reproduce.
Let them kill each other
Think,
Yeah that's it, the police interfered with his second ammendment rights. I'm going to side with the police on this one, get the looney's off the road that are driving around with automatic weapons waving them at people they fight with.
Come on people, store your AK-47 assault rifles in the trunk and the ammunition in a locked box in the front of the vehicle. If your vehicle does not support this arrangement, I suggest buying a new vehicle to carry your assault rifle in.
Just transporting them in any old way may result in confiscation by police, damage to the weapon, theft, etc. That would be tragic.
Jester - REGRETTABLY - NO - YOU CAN PACK AN AK WITH MUD AND THEY STILL FIRE. IF I WERE TO DATE ONE OR THE OTHER - THE AR IS A MUCH PRETTIER WEAPON
The sad fact is is that if any one had a gun in most of these little hoods in caukron it would be considered normal .Now some one dressing and speaking educated with respect ,Now that would be some thing shocking worth reporting.....
Why wave an ugly AK around? Arrest him for ugly weaponry.
Meet The AR-15
@Think - When you sway your gun around in public it's called aggravated menacing.
@Steve - This is not a automatic weapon as you suggest.
@akronlaw - You can still legally transport any legal rifle regardless of the kind of car that you have.
@empower
While it's true that there is no one suprised when someone in the 'hood' has a gun, it is NOT true that there is NO one in the 'hood' dressing and speaking educated and with respect... Some kids ARE stuck in the 'hood' with thier parents.
I just HATE it when some inbred jerk messes with MY rights. Makes everyone who is a resposible firearms owner look bad. JAIL HIM
Does he get his gun back??
