Ex-Browns QB Kosar files for bankruptcy

By Associated Press

MIAMI: Former NFL and Miami Hurricanes star quarterback Bernie Kosar has filed for bankruptcy protection in Miami.

Kosar's Chapter 11 filing Friday lists assets between $1 million and $10 million and liabilities of between $10 million and $50 million.

Kosar owes almost $1.5 million to the Cleveland Browns, the team he quarterbacked from 1985 to 1993. Kosar also owes his ex-wife Babette $3 million and $725,000 to the owner of the Cleveland Gladiators team in the Arena Football League. He owes a bank more than $9 million for bad real estate deals.

The 45-year-old Kosar got divorced in 2007 and last year saw his steakhouse go out of business.

In addition to the Browns, Kosar played for Dallas and Miami before retiring from the NFL in 1996.

I can understand all the other debt incurred, but why on earth does he owe the Browns 1.5 mil? I thought he was a consultant for them or something along those lines? Seems to me like they should owe him some money rather than the other way around. Weird.

He probably owes the Browns for all the alcohol he drank while broadcasting for them( sort of like the bartab the Blues Brothers rang up at Bob's Country Bunker). Babette should be paying him back, though. He had to rebuild a bridge in Aurora that she smashed back in the mid 90's. The drinking thing again.

Didn't everyone seriously wonder why Bernie was involved with trying to "BUY" the new Browns back in '99?

And, be honest...did anyone (Bueller, anyone?) think an indoor football team was a good investment? Why, oh, why can't former athletes bank some money and live comfortably, instead of wasting it away? Do you know how sickening it is to see a multi-millionaire file for bankruptcy protection?

It's all about LIVING WITHIN YOUR MEANS, folks.

Bernie has a ring - FROM DALLAS, and not as a starter. He never even a Conference Championship for Cleveland.

As far as Pittsburgh (since you brought it up) 6 wins are more than never even making it to the game. Now relax, and keep hoping someday, maybe next year. Joe Greene has six rings by the way.
