The recall election of Akron Mayor Don Plusquellic went down in flames among absentee voters.
Out of about 8,000 voters, 84 percent voted against the recall.
The Summit County Board of Elections released the absentee, or early ballots, first. (The polls closed at 7:30 p.m.) The rest of the votes are expected to be posted before 9:30 p.m.
Recall supporters were expecting the absentee vote to lean heavily in favor of Plusquellic because the anti-recall campaign pushed for early voting.

sweet. . .
With half the precincts counted, the mayor is winning more than 3-1. Where's the "fixed vote" complaints?
Now send the bill for the election to Mendenhall and his cronies. What a waste of money.
woohoo!! f-you mendenites. i'd say 3-1 is a "mandate" that you're all the bunch of loons and insignificant gnats king don said you were.
Look for Mayor Minusquellic to try to institute the death penalty for police and fire who have opposed him on residency, retirement benefits, and hiring disputes. He is a very vindictive liberal.
@ RowdyZ - It seems that less people are against him today than did when an actual opponant ran against him...Says something about the pro recall folks credibility, don't ya think?
JSS, too bad he can't be billed for the election. Doesn't make a difference anyway he can't pay his taxes, he'd never pay the election bill!
it "pays" to "buy" votes huh donnie boy.. kudo's to you. i hope all those who voted to recall this jerk, checks into those companies that gave him the money and boycott them. good ole akron, "pay to play", voting with my feet and leaving this crumbling house of cards.
by the way... i felt the recall was kinda of stupid and was neither for or against.

J S S,
trust me, your mayor wastes more money a month then this recall.
dduckster,
Right, you were neutral. Your impassioned intro lends credence to that fact.
I'm going to start a count of people who say they're leaving tonight..... one.

I'd say if the trend holds, it's a vote of confidence of the people and to your point shows something about the pro-recall supporters credibility.
It's also strange that the numbers for the recall are mirroring the petition totals prior to them being validated.
I just want to know where all of the pro recall folks were on the real election day? If their "evidence" is so obvious, why didn't they have support at the polls when he ran against a real, living breathing opponant?
It's OVER! The Mayor stays in.

Ducky, you're obviously uneducated if you cannot see that you were for the recall. I guess you're definitely a Mendenite. :)
It looks like the only ones who voted for the recall were the ones who signed the petitions. Good job, Mendy!
What an embarrassment Warner Mendenhall has brought upon our city. If anyone ever gives this guy a shred of business, they should have their heads examined. He did nothing but wage his own little personal vendetta against the Mayor, and....oh look, the mandate is stronger than ever for Mr. Plusquellic!
Mendenhall is a public nuisance who has now cost us, the taxpayers, nearly $200,000. Maybe it's time someone ran this guy right out of Akron. He doesn't like living here? Doesn't like the leadership? Then go AWAY. Go quickly, Warner. You're disliked (to put it mildly) and unwanted here.
to everyone who didn't get out and vote. whatever this mayor does to this city, you better shut-up and take it like a idiot.
NorthHill63 - Even Joe Finley got a better percentage in the primary...
City of Akron Mayor
(WITH 153 OF 153 PRECINCTS COUNTED)
DON PLUSQUELLIC . . 9,998 52.88%
JOE FINLEY . . . . 8,908 47.12%
Bubbles, I think you're talking to people who are pleased with the direction of the city.
This is great for the city. Warner and his followers need to go back to their day jobs. What a crushing defeat!!!!
gee, was ever really any question of today's outcome? After all, this IS the same mayor who routinely proved his ability to "ensure" his continual re-election for some 20years all the while alternately cursing then ignoring Akron's voters and their priorities in favor of his own agenda, regardless of what impact it might have upon the residents he's SUPPOSED to respect and lead.
Great....maybe we can have the same mayor for 50 years. What a bunch of morons afraid of change. My kid said he would like to be mayor of Akron someday. I told him thats impossible as the current mayor will be the mayor forever. Akron needs to be nuked!
Jester,
Tell your kid to seek out the Republican nomination.... no competition, so he's that close to making it.
Jeff: not quite, but excellent try. I've voted with the majority of the mayor's initiatives. Also I think he routinely insults the liars and hypocrites like yourself, not the general population of Akron.
Jester: God willing your child will never be mayor or just in charge of anything. I fear for the world if that day happens. But from what I can tell of your past posts I guess he'll be working in Wal-Mart.
AMUSED,
having lived in Akron my entire life, and knowing alot of insiders, i know alot of internal things that you don't, or maybe you do. anyway, my problem is i think he is a jerk, and i know there is alot of insider things going on in this city that are crooked. i am allowed to have my opinion, at least i think i am. or because i don't fully agree with the way this city is run makes me a loon or a menndanite?? the reason i was neither for or against, is because he could have been beaten head to head in the general election had finley ran an actual campaign. if you feel your neighborhood is not neglected and you think this city is thriving, thats great. i dont. i think our neighborhoods have been neglected as well as the common citizen. i am sick and tired of hearing the mayor act like a spoiled child when things don't go his way, and what i am truly sick and tired of is the lack of caring about the people and the needs of the people who pay his salary. the last time i checked he works for us, not the companies who funnel him millions of dollars for contributions.
again, i will post here like the other day... within two years, your average water/sewer bill will raise three times, so if you average $50 a month it will be $150 a month. shhhhhhhhhhh secret squirrel........
good luck.
bad math.... sorry....lol $200
Aixl, I didn't bring the primary up mainly because I wanted to show the spread Republican vs Democrat and not dem vs dem. But, your point is well taken.
National Socialist German Workers Party 43.9%. Social Democratic Party 18.3% .AND WE SAW WHAT HAPPENED NEXT.
Ducky: While I'm willing to put my savings on the fact that you're wrong, I luckily do not pay for any of that :p
and "i think our neighborhoods have been neglected as well as the common citizen. i am sick and tired of hearing the mayor act like a spoiled child when things don't go his way, and what i am truly sick and tired of is the lack of caring about the people and the needs of the people who pay his salary."
Forgive me, but it sounds like you're against the mayor.
It's time we now address that $175,000 unpaid tax bill by Mr. Mendenhall. Surely there's some sort of legal action which can be taken? Garnish his wages? Begin repossessing his house, car, business? No one should be allowed to get away with that bullcrap, when...combined with the $175,000 he just forced Akron residents to cough up for his little vendetta, he is now in the red for well over a quarter-million dollars. And this is the person that the lunatic fringe were aligning themselves with. No wonder there's so much ignorance and poverty in sections of our city. Warner and Miss Tia are leading them.
Ignorance kills- thanks for the numbers update...this unnecessary headache is over!
dduckster: "it "pays" to "buy" votes huh donnie boy"
Now I'm really po'ed....I never got paid a thing to vote against the recall and my checking account is drained as usual two days before pay day.
Let the conspiracies begin!
Again, just because you dislike the individual personally (i.e. you think he's a "jerk") does not lend credence to a recall. Historically, recalls have been used in cases of political impropriety or serious corruption, none of which is present hear despite the pro-recall hysterics. I disagree with the mayor on many issues, but that is why we have actual elections. Akron's recall statute is a sham, not to mention overbroad and vague (and should have been challenged on these constitutional grounds). Kudos to Akron for standing up against such a cheap ploy to oust an individual they can't beat in a regular election.
Well, the moral of the story is people deserve the government they vote for. Akron obviously DESERVES this bonehead mayor. I hope you're happy with him.
Glad I didn't hitch my wagon to a tax cheat lawyer.
dduckster: why has my water bill been cut in half, over the last 5 years? Is there a reverse conspiricy?
Where is OldManGrump with his big yap?
You Go Boy! We won!
Here's a good one: Mendenhall's response to his loss was "The neighborhoods are ready to revolt.". Does this guy live with blinders on?
Interesting - I voted absentee, so did my daughter...when we were at the polls on Grant street that day, it was certainly NOT the feeling I got from the other people there to vote on the recall. This whole thing feels fixed to me. I cannot imagine ANYONE worse for our city than King Don...sadly, the majority of people who actually get out and vote are the ones least affected by Plusquellics' policies, or the ones who have benefited the most...like the folks moved out from under the Y bridge and into good neighborhoods that are now falling into decay as a result. The blue collar neighborhoods of this town are being left in the dirt in the name of progress, for downtown. Plusquellic is failing to recognise that this towns backbone are its' blue-collar neighborhoods, and they are the ones being most neglected. I am sorry the recall failed...I would have loved to have seen someone who actually cares about the citizens of this town get in and effect change - not someone who is only interested in his own pocketbook and image. What a loss.
What new and improved way will MendonHOLE waste the taxpayers money now? Except for not paying his own personal taxes???
Where is Old Man Group with his outragous comments tonight.
What new and improved way will MendonHOLE waste the taxpayers money now? Except for not paying his own personal taxes???
It's not over.
Abentee, that's me baby! One soldier doing his civic duty.
now why would anyone think it was fixed, just because Summit County Council publicly announced that they were throwing their suopport to the Don, they had not stake in thisooo oh yeah thats right, wash my back I will wash yours, like fix the election.
Congratualtion to all of you akronites who voted to keep him in, you have just unleashed an animal who will destroy Akron, and you can only blame YOU. have fun. I would suggest Kevlar, it stops bullets pretty well.
