Unlicensed gold, diamond company reaches deal with state

By Beacon Journal staff

A local gold and diamond company, which had been given notice to cease and desist and that the state of Ohio intended to deny its license, has come to a settlement.

The National Gold and Diamond Exchange LLC and The Ohio Gold and Diamond Exchange LLC have offices located in Richfield, with other locations at 3 Merriman Road in Akron and 4966 Tuscarawas St. W. in Canton.

The Ohio Department of Commerce's Division of Financial Institutions conducted an investigation and found that the businesses were operating without state precious metals dealer's licenses.

The businesses published an advertisement in the Beacon Journal on March 22 offering services as a precious metals dealer, days after they applied for licenses, the notice said.

In the settlement, each company agreed to pay a $5,000 fine and stop acting as a precious metals dealer until it receives its license from the state.

Department spokesman Dennis Ginty said the parent company's license application is pending.
