Massillon man, 37, dies in Wayne County crash

By Beacon Journal staff

A 37-year-old Massillon man was killed in a one-vehicle crash early Wednesday evening in Wayne County.

Lonnie D. Harper, of 25th Street Northwest was traveling east on Church Road in Baughman Township, just west of Good Road, at about 6 p.m. when he lost control of the 2000 Dodge Durango he was driving. The sport utility vehicle went off the right side of the road and overturned, coming to rest onto its top after striking a ditch, the Wooster post of the State Highway Patrol said today.

Harper was pronounced dead at the scene by the Wayne County coroner, who transported his body to Wooster Community Hospital.

Harper was not wearing a seat belt.

Harper's sons, twins and another boy all under the age of 10, were in the vehicle when it crashed. Only one was wearing a seat belt.

All three boys were transported to Aultman Hospital.

Dalton, Orrville and Lawrence Township fire departments responded to the incident.

The crash remains under investigation.

my heart and prayers go out to this family. i travel this road daily to take my kid to daycare and there was an accident earlier that morning and two today on this same road for a total of 4. chip and seal rocks were just put down and that loose stone does not make it easy to drive on when going to fast. I pray for all affected.
