Parents charged with starving baby to death

By Associated Press

LAKELAND, Fla.: A central Florida couple has been charged with starving their infant daughter to death after she was found lifeless in their home.

Polk County Sheriff's Office deputies discovered the 5-month-old girl in the family's Lakeland home after responding to a call of an unresponsive child.

Sheriff Grady Judd says the child weighed just six pounds, and that deputies found more beer than food supplements for the baby in the couple's home.

Deputies believe the child, Chauntasia Gardner, was starved to death.

Five other children in the home were healthy and nourished.

Chauncey Gardner and Tivasha Logan have been charged with murder and aggravated child abuse.

Both are being held without bond.

A 5 month old that weighed 6 pounds! Wow!
I also find it strange that the other children were healthy and well fed. The ME will probably check to make sure the infant did not suffer from a pathological condition, since it says the deputies took them into custody. Regardless a very sad story.

This may answer some questions on why the other kids weren't harmed, they killed the kid unintentionally.

From some paper in Orlando.

"The directions on the formula can found in the residence recommended the formula be mixed with water in equal parts, and the parents told detectives they mixed 1.5 ounces of water with a half-ounce of formula, the sheriff's office said. According to their statements, the baby was receiving a third of the recommended amount of formula at each feeding, deputies said."

What planet are you people from? This goes on 24/7 in our country. And, no one has to get permission to have children. They just breed like rats.

Having kids is one of the best things losers are good at. Take a look around you. You see them in the malls, grocery stores, hospital emergency rooms (one of their favorite places) and church (another favorite place for losers to hang).

Believe it or not, some parents actually hate their child(ren). And, yes we can talk about some parents not knowing better, but the end result is the same. A dead kid is a dead kid!

Did this child not see a doctor on a regular basis? Usually, if a newborn is not seen for all their appts, they call csb....

to jason12--what church do you go to that has losers? I know that at our church we are not losers. and not just on faith. perhaps you maybe a loser since you seem to know their hang-outs. One way to stop the "breeding" is to cut the welfare $$ at 2 children. Don't go giving more money every time they pop out a baby. Believe me, it would stop--Did your boss's give either you or your spouse a pay raise when you announced to them that you have another mouth to feed? BET NOT so why is it the goverment does?

This happened in Canton in 2004 to a teen mom in Highland Park - the baby had a medical condition (he puked all the time) so she just put it in the crib and let it die. One and a half years old and he weighed what my babies weighed at birth. She got 15 to life which these two should get as well. Momof2, consider yourself lucky that you don't have to survive off of the lowest possible amount of money that has been found to be sufficient to keep you and your children alive. They raise the amount with a new family member because if they didn't, those kids wouldn't have their basic needs met. And believe me, all people on welfare do is survive, they don't actually 'live' off of it. Consider yourself blessed that you have a job. I'm curious if your church does anything to help with the 'breeding' or the babies they 'breed'? Luke 11:41

peebs - i was thinking the same thing about them having 5 other kids - plus regardless they had to realize the baby was not gaining any weight and was too small for her age.
and i hate to agree with Jason12 but he is right - unfortunately no one does have to get permission to have children.

deidre / peebs

Actually the article that I posted makes alot of sense, if they were out to harm kids then they had plenty to harm. The article also stated that they did not return to the doctor, the kid was born premature, and they were feeding it several times a day and it wasn't getting any bigger. I think these parents were just drunks who didn't put much energy into taking care of the kid and the kid died. I'm not taking up for the parents but I'm also not being over dramatic with my response. I'm just using common sense.

usecommonsense - You make a decent point (and back it up with another article) so thanks for posting that. Glad you aren't taking up with the parents - i don't like the fact that they found more beer than formula, or the fact that they didn't take the infant to the Dr. - but the AP should have included the info about the child being premature.

give it a break.. if they can afford all that beer, they're doing more than just surviving... beer is expensive nowadays, even that cheap stuff the guy in front of me was getting at the store the other day..

Jason12-personally I agree with you 100%. I don't know about you, but I hate going to Wal-Mart for that reason alone...parents that drag their 1 yr old kid around at midnight while they shop...and then yell at them for crying when they should be home and in bed. "Shut up or I'll beat your A**".....trash all the way....some people just suck like that.

This is about what I'd expect from a bunch of backward Florida Crackers. I lived in Florida for several years so I know first hand. Crackers, for those of you who don't know, are the deep South's version of hillbillies. Lakeland is in south central Florida about 50 miles east of Pinellas Park, Florida where the Terri Schiavo debacle took place back in 2005. Mostly populated by bible thumping lunatics in tin foil hats. Nope, not surprised at all to hear that this happened there.

Cracker is a racial slur for white people. The people in the article are black. Calling a white person a cracker is like calling a black person the N word. Everyone knows that you can't type the N word @ ohio.com, but it's racist equivalent is fine and dandy.

Hey 330. Show me in the article where it says that the people are black. It doesn't! Now it doesn't take a genius to realize that you read the names Chauntasia and Tivasha and you "assumed" that the people are black. Not that you would be aware of it but, THAT'S RACISM!

Where did I say they were black? YOU assumed that these people are black. If I said they're black, for some reason, it's because they are. Not only are you a racist, you are very "ignant." It's very racist to go around incessantly throwing the race card out there, just because you can't think of anything else to say.

Keep your unbelievable lack of intelligence and racist hate in Roseville and don't worry about a NEO news site.
