Any body look at what hangs out at that Speedway lately? If I was running out of gas I wouldn't stop there at night unless I had my gun in hand before I got out of the car.

Between teh crime, the outrageous sewer bills, and the ever increasing unemployment in this City.. I am surprised anyone is sticking around... Only thing holding some people here is that they can't sell their homes.. who in their right minds would buy a home in Akron now...

Do you people seriously believe that the 'problem' is the actual color of someone's skin? Really? You never thought it might go a little deeper than that? Poverty drugs crime poor uprbringing = what is going on in Akron. It has absolutely nothing to do with anybody's skin AT ALL! There is so much more to it and that is what makes you ignorant - believing that it is actually 'being black' that is the problem. Oh, and if you are going to organize a protest, it should be citizens against violent crime not white people against black people. My neighbor is black and she is a neighborhood watch dog - nothing gets past her, she will call the cops on anyone committing any crime in a second and she puts up with no crap whatsoever. She also TAKES ACTION in the community to actually try and stop what is going on instead of just complaining about it.

I have been to this gas station and the one on the other side of the street. Seeing that there are some type of thugs (white and black)that just hang around these two places; more police involvement or private security.

ftw is right, violent criminal acts have more to do with socio economic issues that skin pigmentation. Although there certainly is a culture of no snitching, get whats yours at all costs that exists in parts of our community. It is glamorized and made into something to aspire too.

Akron may lack in some ways but it's far from being the crime capital of the US. The idea that protests are needed and will accomplish anything is beyond laughable.

An intelligent person avoids lingering in certain areas of any city during the night and even some during the day. Gassing up at midnight in that area is like moths to a lightbulb.

While some horrific crimes have happened in the area, things just as bad and even worse happen everywhere, everyday.

I don't want to get into this race issue, but I do recall back in my youth there was a Black Student Union and that was OK, but when a group of kids tried starting a White Student Union.. it was immediately branded as racist, bigoted and not allowed. Now we have "XXX" Student Unions for many colors, nationalities and even some religions... bet you still won't find any White Student Unions to this day... hhhmmm.... so much for "equality" yes?

Things like this are the exact reason I left Akron. The Haven of Rest is a total joke. It's almost as bad as a jail, but it's easier to get your belongings stolen, they don't care about the "clients" and they just want money. Kind of like Oriana House. Where I live at now is a much better place. The worst thing we have to worry about here is a deer getting hit by a car or a kid TP'ing a tree.

Getting back to the story at hand,this is sad and unfortunately this is what the world is coming to.Some people dont think twice about taking another persons life.We need to start pushing for better morals!!!

I live not far from Jackson TN, a town of roughly 50,000..there have been 13 murders here so far this year

Ok the whole Black / White thing is out there and I doubt much will change anytime soon and I do slighty understand the "no snitch" thing with black folks. BUT in the case with the 11 bodies found in that guys house in Cleveland, the authorities are begging the black folks to turn in DNA samples in order to identify the bodies, yet they refuse to, why? They are even saying that they promise not to turn in the DNA to authorities! Is everyone in that area criminals and are afraid that their DNA will provide information on crimes they have committed?!? If I knew someone was missing I'd be the first one in line to give a DNA sample if I thought it would help. Is this a "no snitch thing". I simply do not understand the mentality here.

Let's analyze this statement a little. Two homeless guys on the street. Why were they homeless? I had brought my homeless brother-in-law into our home several years back, just until "he got back on his feet". In no time I realized he had no intention of finding work, heck he had it made. He had free food, free rent, free (whatever was in the house). Then things started coming up missing and he started coming home drunk or would call late at night to have someone pick him up. It wasn't long before he was thrown out of our house.

If a person is homeless there's more than likely an underlying reason why. Our attempt to pick my brother-in-law up and get him headed in the right direction wasn't something that he wanted. That's why he's homeless today. These two homeless people are probably the same way and will never contribute to society and if one is dead that's OK with me, if both had died, that would've been better. At this point I have to pay this white guys room and board until they release him. Then what's he gonna do?? Become a respectible citzen and start a family?? I highly doubt it.

Yes, in this case it is a white man who killed a black man. The frustrations of some on here are because of this true statistic.

Populations - 73% White 13% Black

Crimes - 69% Black 9% White

1 in 21 Black males around 21 years old likely to be murdered by another black male.

1 in 220 White males likely to be murdered.

It is not racist folks, it is a fact that the black population must come to grips with and do something about it. The blacks need to stop worrying about anything else and focus on that issue.

The other problem is there are no jobs for blacks or whites and this fuels the fire even more.

Akron would be a beautiful downtown if they would bulldoze all the vacant factories and office buildings east of exchange street. I was there this summer and the downtown from Exchange to Market was beautiful.
