HOOKSTOWN, PA.: Authorities say a 74-year-old hunter from Ohio has been found dead in a tree stand in western Pennsylvania.
Hanover Fire Chief Donald Plance says it appears that Gerald Welder, of Hudson, died of natural causes. The Beaver County coroner is investigating, but says it appears Welder died of heart-related problems.
Police say Welder's relatives went looking for him and found him about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in a wooded area of Hanover Township. That's near the Ohio line, about 30 miles northwest of Pittsburgh.

That is why you always go with a buddy!
When wildlife is provided weapons and taught how to use them and shoot back, then hunting will be a sport. Until then, it's testosterone-lacking individuals making up for some other shortfall in their lives.
He was 76 and died doing something he enjoyed. What a cool way to go, I only wish that I will be so lucky.
hmm wonder if he had a PA license, guess the Ohio deer were not good enough for him...
at age 76 if I can even get up in a tree stand it will be a good day, to die in one, even better.
@patriot76 - Isn't there a tree that needs hugging somewhere?
Boost, I hope it's Poison Oak. UCS Great comment, I hope he got a great look at what the Lord gave us all before he left us. My condolences to the Family.
Totally agree Patriot76.
P76, I hope You are never inured in a crash by striking a deer while driving down "76".
Patriot,
Aren't you supposed to be sipping a Tofu-latte' at the Innerbelt or something? Seriously. Get a life.
At least patriot is not calling cops liars or something to that effect - like he always does - agree - he needs to be h*mping a tree somewhere
You're right Huntr: Went to Canfield from Akron yesterday and on the round trip saw six (6) dead deer. It does sound like this Welder guy died doing something he really liked. Good for him.
Maybe the deer shot back.
Is this really news?
@Charles,Ohio deer hunting dont start yet,thats prob why he was in Pa.
@Patriot,,cant hunt in Hudson huh?
@peebs02; News flash. Ohio deer season has started, several weeks ago. Bow season!!!
" Until then, it's testosterone-lacking individuals..."
Yes, there are a lot of women in the field these days!
I hope I so fortunate to pass-away doing something I love to do. If I can die while making love to a cute redhead with dimples in all the right places, then I would have died a happy man.
UCS
I hear you. Right after finishing, but right before hearing pillow talk like "what are you thinking about?" or "what was your name again?"
Ron Mexico - i am a redhead - but - no dimples LOL
Thoughts and prayers to the guy's family
Deidre
I know of a few tree stands.
Before I hear about how insensitive I am. This guy passed away in an ideal way. He would probably want us to drink a shot to his passing, say a few nice things, and then live our lives like he did......like every day counts.
@Love a redhead
I agree totally!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Too bad he wasn't making whoopie while he was in the tree stand. That would have made it perfect!!
@peebs02 ~ "Ohio deer hunting dont start yet, thats prob why he was in Pa."
And that sentence tells the whole story as to why your letter to the editor was not printed too!
