Man accused in multiple bank heists

By Beacon Journal staff

A Cleveland man, arrested today in connection with the robbery of a Streetsboro bank, is a suspect in other heists, police said.

John H. Ford, 35, was arrested by Twinsburg police shortly after the FirstMerit branch on state Route 14 was robbed today. Police say Ford is a suspect in recent bank robberies in Akron and Stow.

Police say Ford went inside the FirstMerit branch about 10 a.m. today and handed a note to a teller demanding money. No weapon was shown and no one was injured.

Witnesses say the robber fled in a dark-colored Ford Escort. Police stopped Ford's vehicle on Interstate 480 and reported finding a .38-caliber gun and a bank bag containing an undisclosed amount of cash.

I guess the robber figured he didn't have much to risk, considering that driving an Escort is a lot like being in solitary confinement anyway.

Hard times are leading people to do harder crimes to survive. If we don't extend benefits it is only going to get worse.

@hooch ~ "Hard times are leading people to do harder crimes to survive."

Bull ... The people that lie, cheat and steal would do so no matter what the condition of the economy. Good or bad. So don't be giving them any more excuses. Excused are like A-Holes ... Everybody has one!

Anyone unemployed right now would be just a little sympathetic, notice that any criminal history was missing from the fine article.

Maybe he's just works for Goldman Sachs and thought it was his bonus.
