COLUMBUS: In response to a newspaper's investigation, Ohio's governor is calling for a major review of the way the state deals with domestic violence.
Gov. Ted Strickland told the Columbus Dispatch on Thursday that Ohio should consider whatever it can do to stop what he described as ''terrible, terrible behavior.''
A series of reports this week has detailed a four-month Dispatch investigation suggesting the state is too tolerant of domestic violence. It found no arrest was made last year in 45 percent of about 75,000 domestic violence reports investigated by Ohio law enforcement.
Strickland tells the newspaper that Ohio should explore possible reforms including stiffer penalties for repeat offenders and panels that would analyze killings involving domestic violence.

What about all the race/hate crimes committed against whites?
How about arresting and charging women that file false charges simply because they know they have the power to do so?
What about all the race/hate crimes committed against blacks, indians,Irish ,catholics, jews. for over 200 years. And still going on in the courts, police, jobs,And many still have not been brought to justice.1865 the kkk was founded.Oh and against our president.
More woman are being charge with domestic violence than ever before.Time has righted it.Just like it did with Battered wife syndrome. You don't here of that anymore do you.
Yes!@st.end6, they ignore race crimes against Indians, Irish, Catholics and Jews too! Amen, BRUTHA.
it is a judgement call when there - who is telling the truth - past mental history - alcohol use ... lacking injuries - or smashed plants - sometimes there is nothing to base an arrest on...
I will be glad when Ted leave the office.
StephenD6....
HATE CRIMES AGAINST OUR PRESIDENT? R U kidding me? By the looks of your posts, you are committing hate crimes against the English language.
I think Strickland has a good idea. I just hope he doesn't create more government agencies to try and solve domestic violence problems. The agencies we have now are full of under paid lazy pathetic and uneducated individuals who could not work in the private sector, or they would be. Think Children Services Board.
No arrest was made in 45% of investigations. Did these people ever stop to think that might be because there was no wrongdoing? When divorce and child custody hearings can be so easily hijacked by the mere suggestion of domestic violence, it's no surprise that as much as 45% of complaints are false accusations. Shouldn't false accusers be punished for wasting valuable time and resources that should have been going to help actual victims?
If our cops are missing actual cases of violence, that should be addressed. But as long as nothing is done to discourage false accusations, the percentage of complaints that lead to arrests is an absolutely meaningless statistic.
