Bullets whiz into Akron home, strike couch with resident sleeping on it

A gunman opened fire into a home in Akron’s North Hill neighborhood early Sunday, shooting five times into a couch where a resident was sleeping, police said.

The resident and two others were not injured in the shooting, which took place around dawn in the 1000 block of Linden Avenue.

The resident, a 46-year-old man, told police he was sleeping when the bullets pierced through the front window and struck the sofa five times. Three spent rounds were found near the couch, police said.

Police said they found two shell casings on the front porch and one more in the yard. They also noticed five bullet holes in the front porch window. Two others inside the home were asleep upstairs and were not harmed.

The shooter has not been identified.
