Cavs drill Magic 118-94 for second-biggest win of the season
ORLANDO, FLA.: Tyler Zeller scored 16 points and grabbed seven rebounds in his best game in weeks and the Cavaliers pounded the struggling Orlando Magic 118-94 on Saturday.
It was the second-most lopsided win of the season and the biggest road victory. It was also the Cavs’ second win in as many games since the All-Star break, while the Magic have lost 28 of their last 31 games.
Alonzo Gee had 17 points, Kyrie Irving had 12 points and nine assists despite sitting the entire fourth quarter and the Cavs placed seven scorers in double figures for the first time in a regulation game this season (they also had eight in the double-overtime loss to Portland).
C.J. Miles made two 3-pointers within the first two minutes of the fourth quarter, when the Cavs scored the first eight points to stretch the lead to 87-72. That allowed Byron Scott to rest his starters for the entire fourth quarter, since the Cavs play again tonight at Miami.
The Magic were playing without starting point guard Jameer Nelson and had plenty of new faces available for the first time following the trade that sent J.J. Redick to Milwaukee at Thursday’s trade deadline.
The Cavs were without Daniel Gibson and Omri Casspi. Gibson was excused from the team with a personal matter, while Casspi was taken to an Orlando hospital Saturday afternoon with severe stomach pains.
